PIZZACAKE  iTunes just don't cut it when it comes to playing some genres of music, Hip Hop etc. Many tracks sound their best when the pitch and eq is adjusted. Mixxx does this and a whole lot more and I find it very intuitive and uncomplicated because it follows the simple design of old school turntable mixer setups.

PIZZACAKE  Here's my Mixxx configuration on an Intel 1.83GHz Core Duo MacBook running 10.6.2. This setup will not work if you want to playback live on external speakers. The benefits are you only need a pair of headphones (don't need external speakers, won't disturb the neighbours) and you can record your mix if you want to play it back on an ipod/amp & speakers later. The master audio will output via built in output, now when you want to listen to the other track press the headphone button on Mixxx interface and you'll be able to hear both master and headphones through your computers output. When you've synced the tracks turn off headphone on the Mixxx inteface. Now cross fade. If you record the mix and listen back the pre listening isn't recorded.

If you want to output to external speakers live you'll need an external sound card.

The configuration is in the post below

PIZZACAKE  Sorry, forgot to mention this is if you want prelisten on headphones and cue up the next track. Of course if you don't won't to do this then you can use a single output to speakers.

PIZZACAKE  I was having latency issues with soundflower so I installed JackOSX and so far no latency issues.

Audio MIDI setup:

Built-in output 48000 Hz 2ch-24bit

JackPilot preferences:

-JACK Server Section

Driver: coreaudio

Output Device: Built-in Output

Sample rate: 48000

Buffer Size: 512

Hog mode: enabled

-JackRouter Section

Virtual Input Channels: 4

Virtual Output Channels: 4

Auto-Connect with physical ports: disabled

Now start JACK server then open Mixxx

Mixxx preferences:

Sound Hardware:

Master JackRouter: Channels 1-2

Headphones JackRouter: Channels 3-4

Sample rate Hz: 48000

Latency: 49 ms

JackPilot routing:

Under send ports select the port then under receive ports double click the corresponding port to make a connection

Mixxx out1 -> system playback 1

Mixxx out2 -> system playback 2

Mixxx out3 -> system playback 1

Mixxx out4 -> system playback 2

Maybe it's a good thing good to add the link?

Maybe it's a good thing to change the requirements (PPC/Intel, etc.)

PIZZACAKE  It works fine on my MacBook CD 1.84GHz running Mac OS X 10.6.2. Maybe you should try a safe boot, repair permissions etc.
