ENKAYTEE  Seems like the YouTube search function isn't working? The URL created seems OK and works in other browsers, but nothing appears in the iTube Grabber window.

Anyone else noticed this?

JOHN MALIS  Both YouTube own search box and iTB search box are working on my setup.

Try mailing the developer. He is very fast in answering.

ANDYMOONAR  First time I needed a tool to grab a movie stream. Downloaded a couple of tools and this came out as a winner.

Simple - easy - no hassle converting - nice looking UI - free (at least the beta)

A winner

BESID  Do we need a new stream saver? 13 in a dozen already but hey at the moment this is free so why not.

So I give it a try and .. .. what a surprise! This actually works fabulous and is very handy in searching for the video you need. The idea to use browser is plain simple but effective.

Still in beta so I do not going to rate this at this stage but I would give it a 5 star rating at this point.

Is there a price tag known for the final release?

JOHN MALIS  Wow this is one hell of a tool! Tried many different tools for capturing streams but this is by the easiest I ever used.

It is simple and does what it should.

Highly recommended

PETER_EARTHMAN  Did you report this to the DEV?

No problems here.

FYI: there is a newer beta available when you mail the DEV. (beta 0.9.14). Don't know why he didn't make this version public. It fixes some problem I had.

ALEXANDER  Seriously, this is one damn good program ! It is one of the few grabbing OSX tools that actually work on many sites.

The user interface is plain simple and not over complicated. Even noobs like me can grab videos and convert them to a playable format.

I really really like this program and is new member of my ever growing Dock. :-)

Highly recommended when you need some video footage for offline playback.

R33C3  Agreed friend!

Just a note, do you really have one incredible dock growing? or is that metaphoric?

I had that, started to get annoying, use spotlight "APPLE+space" then search.. works like a treat.

Seems to be better than any shareware software right now, Kudos to the developer for putting in effort and making it free!

PETER_EARTHMAN  Duo test with iTube Grabber and iTubeX

Did several tests with both utilities and this is what I came up with:

* Both capture most stream videos with no problems from the leading video sites.

* Both can convert the downloaded flv videos to several codecs. However, iTube Grabber can do this automatically and without the need to install 3th-party packs. iTubeX needs the Perian pack to do this. Not a big deal but some people do not like to install extra stuff. Worth mentioning.

* Both have a very good integrated browser detecting a full acid test.

* I like the iTube Grabber interface more then the dull Safari like iTubeX. It goes without saying this is a personal preference.

* iTube Grabber has a neat stream history. Incredibly handy to catch hidden streams on some pages. This said, multi streams on one page is not very common but if it is there you can make the best of it. iTubeX does not feature this.

* iTubeX does not have a visible indication if there is a stream found. iTube Grabber tells the user this by a red grab button.

* iTube Grabber lacks a browse history.

* iTube Grabber has a "true" OS X interface. iTubeX has some issues (no correct Safari button behavior, no correct preference window, no correct about window, refreshing does not work correct - you have to press it twice, there is no shortcut to close windows and some more tiny bity annoyances)

* iTubeX has multi language support. iTube Grabber not.

My verdict:

Both utilities do what they advertise namely grabbing videos and they both do a very good job.

iTube Grabber has a advantage of doing some operations automatically such as converting, a stream history and having a "true" OS X interface.

This gives iTube Grabber a small overall advantage for me.

iTube Grabber is still in beta so I guess we can expect some more improvements.

Therefore it is fair to rate iTube Grabber one star more then iTubeX.

STEVENDOYLE  I am a happy new osx user for two weeks now. Previously I used Youtube grabber for Windows. Always did the job nicely.

Searching for a osx replacement was though. Tried a couple but other then iTubex I could not find what I was looking for. With iTubex I had some difficulties downloading at garage tv and some obscure sites. But in general iTtubex is good enough to register.

Today I stumbled on iTubegrabber. What a great program. It reminds me of Youtube grabber but with a better osx interface.

Glad I didn't register iTubex because for now I can use iTubegrabber for free.

After downloading a whole set of videos I can already say this is the program I was looking for. Hope this stays free if not I will pay for it when it is cheap.

Kudos to the dev for making the beta useable for everybody.
