AARGL  Ahem... My computer is probably cursed by some voodoo wizard, but none of the versions I tried of iTubeGrabber, iTubeX Ultimate and some other grabbers have ever worked for me without crashing or else...

Until I discovered Tooble today! (thanks to ROBERTCOOGAN2 who mentionned it, see iTubeGrabber's reviews)

It's not a viewer and its interface is not very stylish, but at least it wooooorks! (and nevertheless, it's free!)

As for the browsers/viewers, you might try MacTubes or Minitube.

(I still have to try Youview and FLV Spider)

AARGL  Ok... I have to answer myself: MacTubes can also download movies, but you have to dig a little to find the function and then to try which codec it can download.

As for a browser only app, Minitube is very efficient and simple.

Youview is not bad but to have the download working you have to pay! (Waow, what a freeware! ;-)

ROBERTCOOGAN2  Nice that the app works so well...but why pay for something when others do the same identical thing for free?

ROBERTCOOGAN2  Tooble, YouTube Downloader, FLV Play, MacTubes.

Just from doing a search here on MacUpdate. Others are probably out there as well, I didn't do a Google search. I personally use an older version of iTube X, works very well (and was still freeware back then).

Also bringing up Safari's Activity window, finding the file, and then pressing the Option key while left-clicking on the YouTube movie file in that window will download the same movie, and QuickTime will play the movie.

BOUSOZOKU  I'm not sure why you're knocking this one when the one you use the most has gone through a similar transition from free beta to paid version.

It would be nice if all the houses, cars, and food were free also, but people have to make a living somehow. If you weren't paid for your work, would you be happy?

ROBERTCOOGAN2  Then you missed the point completely...

I was pointing out all of the freeware apps that are available that do the same thing. The same thing...so hence the reason I still use a freeware version. Why pay for something when you can get it for free? And why does a developer devote time and energy to an app, expecting to charge for it, when so many other options are out there for free? This is not a house, or car, or anything else of that nature. It is software. Didn't you see the other FREE alternatives I listed?

Besides, if you saw a car being offered for a set price, and saw another care that had the same features for free, you would go for the free car, no?

BOUSOZOKU  It's a beta test release. Bugs are found and fixed.

Maybe, the developer should leave the bugs there and fix them a month later, by which time you'll have posted that you didn't like that the developer didn't do anything about the bugs?

JASONFANDORA  I am using this from day one and it has grown to a very nicely crafted application.

Always thought it would be free but the low asking price is reasonable. I would gladly pay $7 for this great software.

Gets a full 5 stars from me.

KOSOVAR1  Something tells me 0.9.21 is going to stop working pretty soon, forcing us all to upgrade to the commercial version.I hope the developer will at least be straightforward when it happens by warning us before we download and delete the beta that worked fine. It's also VERY frustrating to have to read that the free version stopped working due to the sudden appearance of "...an unspecified bug in the Mac OSX operating system."

ITB-DEV  Some things to clear out:

- Every public Beta version has a expire date. Mostly about 3 weeks after it was released.

- The initial release 1.0 will cost about $7 or $9 (most probably $7). This asking fee is merely for maintaining my server costs and will encourage me keeping this up-to-date. I am not into making big money with iTB. :-)

- All active beta testers who helped me out will receive a free registration.

KOSOVAR1  Some things to clear UP:

1.) I beta tested your unfinished software. Pay me $7, or better still just leave the beta ersion functional.

2.) Not all beta versions of software expire. I have used certain beta pre 1.0 software for years.

3.) You don't agree? Fine. I've already downloaded the free Tooble version 2.6.4.

C'est la vie! or is it "Hasta la vista?"

ITB-DEV  About expire date: I was refering to the iTB betas. This to make sure everyone was always using the latest beta so I do not get bug reports of older versions.

If you do not want to pay a small fee there are tons of free alternatives. No problem.

Peace

LOW FLYER  The support by the developer is outstanding: a problem submitted on a Saturday evening about an exception of class NilObjectException not being handled and requiring the app to be shut down, was solved within a few hours.

OLD_GUY  A must download for people who love to capture streaming movies. This one really does what it advertises.

The bonus to convert to multiple codecs is a great addition I did not found on other capture utilities.

One question though, will it be free at initial 1.0 release? I would pay if needed but free is always nicer. ;-) ;-)

Kudos to the developer to make the beta public.

YOUNKINT  From the developers web site: "The initial release will probably cost about $9. This beta is fully functional and free."

$9 is about right, especially considering how many folks have run the beta which must have greatly aided development. $20 would be way too much. The developer will have to decide whether to sell a few at a high price, or sell many at a lower price. You'd think that choice would be easy; how many Wal-Marts are there compared to the number of Macy's?

APPLEJACK78  Highly recommended application for grabbing streams.

Could download every video from YouTube I wanted and the auto converting is a very nice addition.

Still free and hoping it will stay free. ;-)
