DESCRIPTION
Paste Master is a clipboard manager controlled by a preference pane that allows you to save multiple items that you have placed in the clipboard and be able to paste them again later.

Paste Master allows you to display up to 99 items in a compact manner, making it easy to quickly find which one you want to paste again. Paste Master recognizes certain types of text much like Apple's Data Detectors, and allows you to paste them in special ways. This feature is very useful when dealing with web or database forms that force you to type things like phone numbers or social security numbers in separate fields, or force you to enter phone numbers with just decimal digits.

HALEONEARTH  Any reason in particular that Paste Master sports such a godawful look and feel (circa Win 95)?

ROBOTANK  Well, Paste Master's clipboard grid certainly has no eye candy, but I can't say that it makes me think of Windows 95. In any case, I guess it comes down to priorities. I like the no-frills approach--it results in a stable utility with a tiny footprint. Contrast this with certain clipboard utilities out there that have so much eye candy that they sacrifice stability and use an inordinate amount of system resources (for a glaring example of this, see Clips).

JPLW  The idea was to display many clipboards at once, showing you enough information to find the one you want. I am open to constructive suggestions to improve it.

SYZZYGY  When I click on menu bar icon and then click on 'show clipboard grid', the grid does not appear on my screen.

Also, I can't get the hot key functions to work.

Looked for developer's contact email address at his website but couldn't find it.

ROBOTANK  At the very top of the Paste Master page that MacUpdate links to, you'll see the developer's name as a mailto link. In my experience this developer has been extremely responsive, so I'm sure you'll be able to get your issues sorted out.

SYZZYGY  Thanks for pointing me to developer's email address. Anyway, I resolved the issue on my own, so all's well.

ROBOTANK  There are, of course, many multiple clipboard apps for the Mac out there right now, and I think I've tried just about all of them. Without going into details, it will suffice for me to say that I've found problems or things I didn't like in most of these apps. Paste Master is impressive in its balance of simplicity and features. It has the (for me essential) ability to paste clips as plain text and some unique abilities to paste phone numbers and such in separate fields. The grid clipboard layout is nice and makes it easy to locate individual clips. It has no superfluous eye candy, which I've found tends to make for a more stable application. I emailed Paste Master's developer 4 feature suggestions, and he implemented 3 of them in an update a few days later. There are still a couple of minor improvements I'd like to see in Paste Master, but it's good to know that the developer is responsive to suggestions and apparently dedicated to continually improving the application. 8 dollars, of course, is a very reasonable price for a useful and well-written application. I suggest that people looking for a clipboard app right now check out Paste Master and ClipMenu (also excellent) and avoid the more expensive utilities, the higher prices of which don't necessarily get you a better product, often just a better looking one.

MACOLYTE  Thanks for this thoughtful, in-depth review. I'm on what feels like a never ending search for a multiple clip board utility, and this kind of review would be helpful everywhere I go. Kudos.

FLUXUSQUO  Clipboard managers have been all the rage lately, it seems. There's a new one every week or so, and some are very pricey. As a writer, I think I've tried most of them. Paste Master gets it done with no fuss and bother and with great simplicity. I just tried 2.0, and the developer has added very usable functions and features. This bodes well for future development. I made a suggestion on a feature during the run of 1.1, and he e-mailed me immediately that he was including this and thanking me for the suggestion!

Oh--and at eight bucks--it's a no-brainer.
