DESCRIPTION
GrupaDupa can find duplicates on any folder or hard disk very fast.

GrupaDupa scanned the entire content of one of WordPower's hard drives (126,963,803 files), filtered out all the files that are contained in folders like bundles, themes. packages etc but appear as files, sorted them and created the report listing the 6,658 duplicates it contained. The operation took 45 seconds to complete. GrupaDupa will create a report listing the names of all duplicated files found. As trying to judge which duplicates to keep is ultimately a decision that can only be made by you GrupaDupa offers you to reveal the files in their own Finder window, to move them to the trash or open them with a suitable application. In Demo mode Grupadupa will work for 99 times, will find all duplicated files but will create a report only for the first 2 dups found. A small job well done.

MLEONTI  I wrote GrupaDupa because I got frustrated.

Any applications I could find to tell me whether I had duplicates or not were very slow (up to 25 30 minutes to scan a HD). I never wanted to wait that long.

GrupaDupa very quickly provides a list of all files that have duplicates.

This is the purpose of the application.

The other applications provided a lot of information about the files but in the end I still had to go to each file individually to make sure I was deleting the right one.

The Finder, Spotlight and other applications cannot provide the list but are optimized to find each file in the GrupaDupa report so that they can be examined independently and dealt with.

I found this satisfactory as I deal with the duplicates in batches when it is convenient. Grupadupa’s report stays on the HD ready for me to resume the job when I have time.

WordPower is working on using the list to allow the user to reach each duplicate without compromising on speed.

In demo mode GrupaDupa finds all duplicates, but writes on the report only the first two. After registration GrupaDupa writes all duplicates in the report in the same time.

Both in demo and registered mode GrupaDupa finds all duplicates, but in demo mode only writes the first two to demonstrate it finds them.

It takes no longer to get a full report.

C. SPENCER VAN GULICK  Love the name of this application and its icon is unadulterated genius: clearly the programmer doesn't take himself, or perhaps his task, too seriously. And GrupaDupa is "a small job, well done." But, hey, if I were hunting a needle in a haystack, would I want somebody to tell me, "Yup, I've searched, and there IS one: its name is Mr. Sharpie. Now see if YOU can find it."? Gee, I might wish he would hold it up afterwards and say, "Here it is!"

Might we see the pathnames, at least?

MYSTERY TRAMP  In less than a minute, the software scanned my 55G hard disk and claims to have found more than 3000 duplicates. In demo mode it only presents two, so you're left wondering if it took that 57 seconds to find two duplicates, or 3000? You can't be sure.

I don't object to limiting the number of files presented in demo mode, but two seems so severe that you won't get a good idea of the software's usefulness.

Also, the software could significantly up its functionality if it gave more information. The user is given file names, which you then have to use Spotlight or some other file finder to determine which one to trash. Far better would be a report that gives duplicate file names, paths, size and date of last modification -- even if that adds time to scanning the hard disk.

Guess you can't argue over the price, but I'd pay more if I got more.
