DESCRIPTION
Hulu Desktop is a lean-back viewing experience for your personal computer. It features a sleek new look that's optimized for use with standard Windows Media Center remote controls or Apple remote controls, allowing you to navigate Hulu's entire library with just six buttons. For users without remotes, the application is keyboard and mouse-enabled. Hulu Desktop is a downloadable application and will work on PCs and Macs. It will initially launch as a beta product during which we plan to gather and incorporate user feedback to improve the service.

ILIKETRASH  One of the fun things about Hulu Desktop is you can't watch all of the videos that are on hulu.com. For example, Hulu Desktop will not show Action! but your web browser will. Way cool.

LIBERTYFORALL1776  This version FINALLY adds a Universal Binary Internet Plugin! Now all we need is a PowerPC-optimized version of Flash so Hulu works decently on older G4s, and a 64-bit version for 10.6!

MTCOBRA  Why can't HULU, which when run will recognize that there is/has been an update, cannot successfully self-install it? Always it finds an error, so it cannot update itself. The only way I've found is to delete the old version and download the new. Not good.

UMAROMC  Being that the mass of the contents of the plug-in is a 12kb Unix Executable I doubt it'll bog down your monster Intel system.

KNOWHOWE  New update, same problem: once again, a la my earlier post, this won't work if you're not in the US so don't bother dowloading it.

If you're in the UK, give Zattoo a try. It gets most channels that Frreview offers and works very well.

Or have you found something better?

LVWOLFMAN  First a note to all: Hulu.com is constrained by licenses with programming providers. Just as DVD movies are "Region" coded to protect distribution licenses, streaming video providers are also generally limited in distribution. What this means is that just as we in the United States aren't allowed to stream BBC TV's simulcast of BBC One, Those in most of the world (I'm not sure about Canada) are not allowed to stream video from Hulu.com.

This would of course, apply to any desktop application released by Hulu. So sorry Charlie, as you found out, the Hulu Desktop Apps are NOT workarounds to let you watch Hulu distributed videos in other countries.

Now... as the app goes, I'm running a late 2007 17" Mac Book Pro. On my 12mbps Cable modem, with my wife playing Second Life and streaming music, and me downloading from newsgroups on another machine at full speed and 20 connections, the high quality mode of the Hulu Desktop app was darn good. When I stopped the downloads it was fantastic!

I tried it as well on my 12" 1.33 Ghz Powerbook G4. This app isn't supposed to work with it, but it did. On the low setting I could watch it in a pinch but the video stopped far too often. But it DID work!

And yes, it works perfectly with my Apple Remote.

BLABLABLA@DODGIT.COM  Shouldn't have interfered with Boxee. I will not install this on principle.
