DESCRIPTION
Snowtape... Listen to your Favorite Radio with its high-performance database, Snowtape is able to store thousands of radio stations for you to choose from. You can search for a particular station or sort the list by e.g. genre and bandwidth. You can also add any radio station onto your favorites list to help you quickly find the right station for your current mood.

Instantly Record the Program It's as simple as clicking a button. Hit the record button while listening to your favorite station and recording starts instantly. Snowtape is able to cut the recordings at audio track boundaries automatically. Snowtape can identify potential commercials or interludes. With the built-in track editor you can cut out any interfering audio you do not wish to be exported.

1-Click Export to iTunes Simply click the "Export to iTunes" button and the audio track is encoded to high quality AAC audio and saved right into your iTunes. Album artwork and track titles are automatically exported as iTunes Audio Tags and get incorporated directly into the audio track during export.

Import Internet Playlists Snowtape can import .PLS and .M3U internet playlist files as well as .Webloc URL files. Simply drop your files onto the radio list or choose "Import Files" from the application menu. You can also provide Snowtape playlist or stream URLs. Snowtape checks every URL and only imports those that work.

Drag & Drop iTunes Radio As a bonus, Snowtape also understands items coming directly from iTunes. This means you can easily import a radio station onto Snowtape by clicking and dragging from the iTunes list. It works with any radio station you previously imported to iTunes as well as with the complete iTunes radio catalogue.

Get Album Artwork Snowtape partners with Last.fm to give you the bonus of album artwork and additional album metadata. In most cases, Snowtape can download this information automatically for you. Alternatively, a "Get Album Info" button searches and adds any album info and cover artwork available.

FORMICA  I just checked this developer's webpage, where it says they plan to sell this for $29 after the beta period. I agree with others here who think that's wayyyyy too much. Pass.

PLOTZENHOTS  as free software - wonderfull - but

29 dollar ist 1/5 price of the Leopard..it´s much to much

i´ll give you a few bucks, no penny more otherwise there are alternatives like the glorius "Audion 3" made by the gentle people of panic.com

LEONCAHUN  Installs an internet plugin called RadioURL without asking for permission, only declaring to have done so afterwards when asking you to restart your browser (Safari) to take effect.

Probably–hopefully–not doing any harm, but still: a good Mac citizen asks BEFORE installing something, providing the user an opt-out.

JON & KAREN HEAL  Am I missing something here? Downloaded it. It's undeniably cool-looking and does what it's supposed to, but many (most) Internet radio stations crossfade tracks. You end up with tracks in Snowtape that have scraps from other songs at the beginnings and ends of them -- which of course, sounds awful.

I guess I didn't really expect Snowtape to magically workaround the crossfade problem, but still ...

To me, this issue seriously limits software fo this type in general.

... unless someone can enlighten me as to what I've been doing wrong.

DR. GIRLFRIEND  There is a setting that allows you to turn this "feature" off. I can't remember what it is called because I uninstalled SnowTape already, but check under the preferences.

Unfortunately, whether you leave it on or turn it off doesn't matter because SnowTape ignores your choice and adds the stupid crossfading anyway. :P That was true for the previous version anyway; I have no idea if that bug has been fixed yet. SnowTape also would not place the recorded songs in the iTunes library like it claimed. These two annoyances led me to uninstall SnowTape and go back to PandoraJam which, I feel, is a superior product.

FARIBORZ  I already own Radioshift and although it's a great program I finally bought and switched to Snowtape. The reason is that I found Snowtape's interface very nice and intuitive and its integrated recording and editing feature is second to none. It's also very fast when tunning to or switching channels and now version 1.1 adds even more funtions like importing directly 750 new stations and a more practical interface. I was skeptical at the beginning to buy this program and used it in DEMO mode for a while but now that I own it and in the light of the new enhancements I can't recommend it enough. ROB.H  Am liking Snowtape a lot more since I first looked at it in April. The two major problems I had both seem to have been fixed (stability and adding new stations).

Looking forward to new features being added, like the ability to rip directly to mp3 or at least export to mp3 as an option. Also, being able to choose where Snowtape puts its repository. Oh and being able to fade in/out with the editing tool would be nice.

Still, a great example of how an interface should be done although for some reason my friend hates it. Horses for courses I guess.

JAZZJOHANNES  Thanks a lot for this great application, finally somebody stood up to Apple's horrible iTunes development progress!

Pros:

- Brillant design

- very stable

- very fast access times for stations

- very small application size

Cons:

- no opt-out for Safari integration

- white font on black is bad the eyes

Missing features:

- shortcuts for switching radio stations

- import of .asf file format

- scheduled recordings

- last time played column for radio stations

COMMANDERTEE  I think d-point is right. This app is amazing, not in regard to the features, but how they are realized. I agree at some point that FStream can also record internet radio, but then you have to have other applications to really make use of the track. You will at least need an audio editor to cut the track, which can be cumbersome for once. And you need to find the album artwork and the metadata youself and edit the track manually in iTunes. If you have enough time at your disposal, maybe it's ok for you to use FStream, but if you're like me and never have enough time, Snowtape will do the job a lot better.

Plus, hey you can't compare a soapbox with a motorcar. The soapbox may get you from A to B as well for the cost of nothing, but you will win the race with the motorcar.

I think Snowtape is all worth its money. I recorded 300 tracks last night. Won't happen with FStream. Thumbs up!

D-POINT.ORG  i totally agree on free FStream, thats a awsome app.

but you are not able to cut the files

has no “Overlapped Recording”

has no Get Album Artwork

has no 1-Click Export to iTunes

and it will not detect tracks.

Snowtape will save you many hours of work.

i did a direct comparison, and it was way faster and nicer to work.

really mac like !

Price comparison :

well, same as Rogueamoeba Audio Hijack / Fission

and same as 2 CD's

Free : Streaming

Demo restrictions : time period you can record audio with Snowtape is 60 minutes overall

Features Request :

Snowtape needs to have sheduled Recording for this price. (Radioshift)

Snowtape requires Mac OS X 10.5.2 or later, i want to have it on tiger !

Snowtape app is multilingual,

FAQ is english only, why not international ?

FARIBORZ  As far as I know, the developer of this software doesn't ask for any shareware fee if you use Snowtape exclusively for listening to music. Users are asked to pay only if they use the recording and editing features of the program. Please correct me if I'm mistaken. Fariborz AMIRSHAHI - Verona (Italy)

NOTAFOOL  Correct. So he is asking an OUTRAGEOUS $29.00 JUST for the recording facility. A feature which FStream and numerous other internet radio applications provide completely for FREE.

I repeat. This is a GREEDY Developer, completely out of touch with reality. BEWARE !!
