DESCRIPTION

TexWriter is a for dealing with Latex documents. With its simple one-window-environment gone are the days of having multiple windows open when working on larger projects containing several file includes. TexWriter includes the following features:

  • Outline for dealing with larger projects
  • The sidebar of every TexWriter document window makes it easy to get an overview of the document. It will show an outline of all the parts, chapters, sections & subsections in the document. It will also look for file include tags within a file. This means that if you include a file within another file, you will have direct access to that file within the same window. Gone are the days of having to deal with several windows when working on a large project.
  • Outline of errors and warnings
  • When transforming your document into a pdf file the status output is shown within the application window. If one or more errors or warnings were found while transforming, TexWriter shows these in a clean outlineview making it easy for you to find the mistakes and fix them. Just click on a row in the outline and TexWriter will bring you to the line in the file where the error or warning was found.
  • PDF in the same window
  • The PDF version of a document can be shown within the same window as the document it self. Making it even easier to read through your document.
  • Help making TexWriter stable
  • By downloading TexWriter and reporting bugs when you find them you will help improving the stability of TexWriter.

TexWriter is still in a very early stage of development. It's out in public because I wanted some initial feedback. But don't expect a very complete bugfree product yet. It can crash from time to time.

WHAT'S NEW
Version 1.0b10:
  • Delivers a big performanceboost when switching between big files.
REQUIREMENTS

GIOVANNI LANZANI  It seems very nice but it needs some sort of autocompletion feature, otherwise it will be a real pain to write with it. Right now I'm using Aquamacs + AucTeX + Skim, which is a nice trio, but I'm still not 100% convinced of Aquamacs because, despite its name, it doesn't feel so Aqua. But AucTeX power makes TeXshop simply ridiculous..so..if you would make an autocompletion system like AucTeX, you would have the best program around for writing TeX.

But.. hey great work for a 1.0.0.1

ANONYMOUS  Thank you for the comment.

Autocompletion is definitely on the to-do list.

Right now the main thin is to ensure that what you write in the program is actually what ends up in the saved file, and that the basic functionality works as it should.

I have a lot on the drawing board for future releases =)

PANAYOTIS  Well, there *is* auto-completion, for free, since you are using the standard aqua widgets.

Just press Escape and completion is here!

It might not work at it's best, in the beginning, but it's able to learn!

MARK EVERITT  I really like the layout for this, especially the way the tree of TeX files works on the left. I'm writing my thesis at the moment and I may well switch to this. TeXShop is my other editor, and whilst pdfsync allows me to open anyfile with a command-click on the relevant section of the pdf, this always leads to TeX files open all over the place. Until TeXShop does tabs TexWriter wins!

One wish is for pdfsync support!

ANONYMOUS  I will look into pdfsync support...

Remember to post bugs and feature request at http://deliciouscode.lighthouseapp.com

And remember to back up your thesis - it's still a beta =)

MARK EVERITT  Oh I have backups! I'm so paranoid that I have automated backups to completely different parts of the world in case of nuclear holocaust. :D
