DESCRIPTION
Decloner helps you find and eliminate duplicate files on your Mac. It uses SHA-1 algorithm to reliably determine if files are identical. Decloner has a simple straightforward user interface where you only need to specify a directory to scan, and Decloner will find duplicate files in that directory and all its subdirectories. It then will show you the found duplicates and help get rid of them safely. Decloner never deletes anything permanently. All removed files are moved into the Trash so you can always restore them if you change your mind. When determining which files to delete, you can see their information and use QuickLook to examine the contents just like you would do it in Finder. You can define exclusion patterns to ignore certain file names, and set minimum file size to ignore very small files. Decloner can process large number of files on internal or external disk drives. For your convenience Decloner includes Sparkle auto-update feature.

RMARGULIES  Decloner 1.1.1 seemed to work very well for me. Took a 3.2 GB folder (6,500 files) and knocked it down to 1 GB (4,300 files) in just a minute or two. Nice simple software that works well. I will buy it after a few more days of testing, as it's good to support (and reward) those that do such nice work.

ZX  So after a day with Decloner i have to say that it’s just a useless app (at least at this point). It took Decloner 14 Hours!!! to scan a 1TB Folder. Result where 50% wrong and the user interface is very “primitive” and time consuming.

P.S - In comparison, Tidy Up! scanned the same folder in in less than 3 minutes!

ANONYMOUS  Could you please provide an example of a wrongly detected duplicate? I'd appreciate if you wrote to support@pixelespresso.com. Thanks.

Y-GUY  So far so good, appears to be a fully functioning non-crippled trial for up to 30 days. I say appears as nothing on the website gives any information about this (hint hint), but so far I haven't encountered any limitations. Quickly scanned a photo folder that I knew had many duplicates; 15,115 files took 2:33 minutes to scan. Quick view allows you to visually compare the files from within the program, no need to launch Preview or something else. It displayed pics and videos that I had in those folders. Doc folder was able to display PDF, XLS and some, but not all DOC files (not sure why, might be older DOC file formats). I do question the long term value of the app, once you clean up your drive how many times will you use it, for that reason I question the price, I just seem to many set the $20 arbitrarily. Reality is that I could probably clean up my drive within 30 days, many would not bother to register once completed. If it was priced 10-14 I would probably be more inclined to register. JMHO

ANONYMOUS  Thank you for the positive review. There are no limitations during the trial period. After the trial ends, the convenience functionality (QuickLook, Delete All Marked) becomes disabled, but you still can scan for duplicates and delete them manually. The QuickLook functionality is the same as in Finder, so if Finder can show a preview of a file, Decloner will be able to display it as well. As for the long-term value, I use Decloner regularly myself, and it helps me free space on my disks I never knew I had. I hope other users will find it useful as well.

Y-GUY  One more comment to share, hope the developer can address this. When scanning an external drive I could not delete single files or files that were tagged. I am assuming this works like this since the software is designed to move the file to the Trash, and an external drive it gets deleted. The only way around this was to use the reveal in finder, then to delete.
