MTPALMS This "noob" went back to Handbrake, which didn't convert flv files when I bought Visual Hub a few years back. It opened and converted the file perfectly that crashed video monkey. Please keep your personal observations to yourself and limit posts to useful information. I never had Visual Hub put audio out-of-sync, but I'll refrain from blaming the previous poster for not llnowing how to use VH. (Version 0.5)

MTPALMS It simply doesn't work. As soon as I add a file, it freezes and I have to force quit. I really, really miss Visual Hub. (Version 0.5)

ROGUEOFORM actually...it does work quite well. there are a few details to work out but really people, anyone who converts alot of files knows that visual hub would throw audio out of sync sometimes while it has not happened once with videomonkey. noobs should not post comments as some of you obviously do not know what you are typing about. whine all day long that visualhub is gone...but face reality. this is by far the best substitute, and i have tried them all. SMACTRON Looks very promising. I just had a quick request; while it's great that it has presets for different devices, the options (for Apple products) are limited to iPod, iPhone, iPod touch, and AppleTV. Ideally they would have support for the multiple generations of products. I have a fifth generation iPod nano and I don't know what setting to choose. I have lots of videos I want to convert, but I'd like to convert them down to tiny videos, since the screen is really small and I don't want to waste time and file space if I only need small videos. Any thoughts? (Version 0.5)

GBBOB FOR A BETA video monkey is off to a good start. But it is still a far cry from VisualHub even if it does use its engine. I still use VisualHub 1.3.4 for converting avi files to DVD files & converting mov files to avi. I still cannot believe how much you can fit on a single layer dvd with VisualHub. I just cannot understand why version 1.3.5 still requires a serial number since it is no longer supported. The serial number I have for 1.3.4 does not work on 1.3.5. Right now VM does not do the converting I need to do and there is no other program that gives the quality that VisualHub delivers. VM has a long way to go before it is able to fill the shoes of VisualHub. Time will tell. End of line.... (Version 0.5)

PROMAX Well, if you want a good laugh then download this and try it. The interface is just not finished and frankly it has a very bad design from the beginning. Didn't convert three video's I tried. One even crashed/freezed my Mac Pro and could not force quit on it. Dump it right now! (Version 0.1)

PATRIZIAF I personally like the interface and the design. Yes, it is not complete but it is software in development (and free at the moment...): the other functions will come with the time. I tried it with many videoclips and failed only once.... I ask me what kind of crap you are trying to convert... You can always use non free software if you are not happy.... BUY and COMPLAIN! I use mainly other free softwares to convert but I tried this one because it is good to have many different choices and I know that the other softwares that I use are now discontinued and in a couple of months they will stop to work... (Snow Leopard, new iTunes,...). That's why I keep an eye on Video Monkey and others... (Version 0.2)

HAUNTEDTAPEDECK I agree with the reply above. Video Monkey hasn't failed on many encodes for me either. The interface is not bad at all, despite having a few obvious, easily remedied errors (for instance the "Overall progresss" spelling error, still apparent in 0.3). I like the simple yet, flexible encoding options, for example, selecting iPod touch then tailoring it for TV output at high quality with a 2 pass encode. It makes it very easy to achieve your desired outcome. Other encoders often often too few choices, or are so configurable as to be overwhelming. I think Video Monkey shows quite a bit of promise. CANADIANPJ I do not agree at all that this program is no good. Above all, it works and it works every time for me. It could be a little better on the design front but I personally have no problems with it and hope they keep going. (Version 0.4)

CHIRON1 I cannot get Video Monkey to work. Every file I've tried to convert with it causes it to stop and say that it doesn't recognize the format. I drag the same folder/file into VisualHub and HandBrake and they convert without a complaint. Glad I didn't delete VH when I downloaded this. For me, it's not ready for prime-time. (Version 0.1)

SUCKERPUNCH86 This actually does what it says......I managed to convert a lot of videos with it and they came out quite good. Although you can currently only export to Apple devices, that will change as newer versions are released. (Version 0.1)

PEN_SQ The source is kept in version control, you can browse the latest version at http://videomonkey.svn.sourceforge.net/. Click on the "D/L GNU tarball" link to just grab the whole lot. If you want the source for that specific release, then you have to install macports and svn. (Version 0.1)

TIAGO And by "great but now defunct Video Hub software", I'm guessing you mean VisualHub, right?
