LARISSAC Is there any way at all to get rid of the hideous UI colors? Yuck! I need a digital shelf not a carnival! HUD-like or something? Hello? Anyone? (Version 1.2.0)

TOM ANDERSEN You can access two more rows of recent and cooler items by using the arrow keys to select the far right item - then scrolling right once more with the arrow key. Each of the two shelves is really 3 rows long. But we made it so that down arrow takes you to the shelf below - which is why you need to go all the way to the right. I often use this to find a file that is a day or so 'old'. --Tom (Version 1.2.0)

CINDI168 I really like this app, but I wish the ram usage was less (mine's around 40 mb). I also wish we could customize the interface a little, like how many fresh items are displayed and also change the colors so it'll be something other than green (perhaps grey? or a hud interface?). Keep up the great work! (Version 1.1.4)

DRDUL I really like this app. I used to use the "Today" search in the Finder sidebar all the time, but it was a PITA to keep customizing it to exclude certain file types (it shows *everything* by default). Fresh does the same thing but better: I can activate it with an easy-to-hit hotkey (Control-Space in my case). It shows me the 15 most recent items (I'm on a 30-inch monitor you'll see fewer items on a smaller screen) sorted in order of use. It gives me decent-size previews of each item, and I can quick look them. I can drag items from Fresh to move them. I can easily exclude items and locations from being displayed, so what i am left looking at is only the items I want to see. It automatically melts away once I don't need it any more. But the best part is the Cooler, where I can hold items I want to access later. This feature alone is worth the price of admission. And to top it off, the Cooler will automatically purge the oldest items when it runs out of room, saving me the effort. There are only a couple of minor things I'd like to see improved: A larger font for the tooltip that displays the full file name on mouseover, and an easier way to distinguish the file name from the path. An optional colour scheme that isn't so hard on my eyes. :-) (Version 1.1.4)

@Xenophile: smart folders do some of the stuff that Fresh does but in a more cumbersome way; they have their own uses, of course. But the ability to drag from Fresh to the "cooler" -- for stuff you want to keep handy pro tem. -- isn't easily replicated in smart folders. I suppose it depends, as always, what you use your Mac for. In my case, time = money. Fresh doesn't have to save me that much time rootling around in folders for it to have earned its keep. (That's the same reason I use Leap.) Fresh, and the Cooler in particular, give me a glimpse of what Custom Stacks could have been if Apple had gone ahead with them in Leopard: ad hoc collections of stuff from all over the place, kept together for the time being without interfering with the underlying folder structures. "Aliases," you may say. Well, yes. But see my remark on smart folders. Aliases are just a bit too clumsy for everyday use on the fly. (Version 1.1.1)

MACSTERDAM a very useful and nice-looking gui-version of recent documents/favourites. the one thing that bothers me, though, is the amount of ram it uses. after about an hour it already took up some 50mb, which I think is too much for something like this. I have plenty of ram in my mac, but I also run a lot of software, so I'd like see smaller utilities keep ram-use to a minimum. I feel software like this should stay well under 25mb ram use. with regards to tagging, again, very nice, but I'd like to see a shortcut to add tags, instead of having to drag the file to a drawer. still, v1.0 is off to a fresh start (pardon the pun) - will keep an eye on this. We are aware of how precious RAM can be, even on modern machines, and we are working on memory tuning enhancements to lower the amount used. Keep an eye out on the Ironic Software site for updates. Cheers! (Version 1.0)

TOMANDERSEN I have looked at the memory usage - almost all of it is from a part that we are using called IKImageBrowser - which is an Apple thing. The memory that it uses seems to be of the cache variety - which means if your system should use a lot of memory - Fresh will use less. Still it would be nice to lower this number. In other words - yes its using more than it might seem necc - but most of that should be squeezed back for you if your computer starts to run low on memory. We are looking at rewriting this with our own code, but it would be more work. --Tom (Version 1.1)

MACSTERDAM I know how OS X handles it memory, and normally ram use shouldn't be a problem as inactive memory is supposed to be released when need. I find, however, that's not nearly always the case. I have 4GB of ram in my machine, but still I run out of memory more often than I'd like, so I'm careful on which utilities I use and which I don't. Fresh looks very nice indeed and shows a lot of promise, so I will keep an eye on it (I already use both Leap and Yep - big fan of both btw), but if Fresh continues tio use a lot of ram, I'll give it a miss.
