DESCRIPTION
TapNTune brings to your desktop something that was until now only available in hardware form: namely, a combination tuner and metronome that runs from a single window. TapNTune’s easy-to-use interface includes the best features of both a metronome and a tuner, but feature bloating is avoided in favor of simplicity. Nonetheless, TapNTune possesses a powerful feature set.

YOXI As an aside - if you install Onscreen Help for a Canon Lide scanner on your mac, instead of launching help, it launches TapnTune! Very weird. Investigating...

YOXI Resolved - I had to delete TapNTune and then reinstall it in order to be able to use both. Probably something to do with Canon's own installation method.

AARGL Like most computer based metronomes, its time precision is sensitive to the overall activity of the computer (just try to switch apps while playing and you notice it slows down!). Even if it has some good features, I must say that for this matter "Metronome 1.8.2a" (as for the present version) is more reliable (but it doesn't start directly when you press the space bar, which TapNTune does, and that could be an issue in some situation). Apart from that, it's fully featured as a metronome. About the tuner, I'd say that using the integrated mic of my iMac G5 is useless, just like any other competitors I've tried: the needle wriggles in a spastic way. (I suppose it's the mic that gets various rumours and can't deliver an analysable sound) I haven't tried it with other mics.

JAEMS Thanks for the review. I'd be interested to hear if you can help the built-in on the iMac through the Mic sensitivity and speed settings.

ANONYMOUS Your little app got me out of a bind today, and I just wanted to say thank you. I needed a tuning fork, was setting up a new Stratocaster and needed the correct pitches to get the neck tensioning rod adjusted exactly for the string gauges that I use. But today was a Saturday, and all the music shops had closed early. Out of options, I checked for a shareware or freeware application that would give me the fundamental tones by which to tune the instrument, and I found TapNTune. As as a guitar mechanic, I now have a tool far better than a pitch pipe or tuning fork. As a musician, I now have also a metronome to help with the most troublesome issue for any solo performer -- timing and tempo. For me, TapNTune would be greater still it you added just one more metronome sound that was deep bass, like the heartbeat of a blue whale or the sound of Zakir Hussein's left hand on the bayan. Just a pulse that the musician could hear/feel in the headphones as he is playing. For this already excellent, simple tool, thank you.

DHESS01 Anybody else have problems with this app crashing? OSX 10.5.6 Intel. Past two versions have crashed repeatedly on open whether run Native or under Rosetta.

JAEMS Hi DHESS01. I am not sure if you got version 1.1 because the link from this page was incorrect when you wrote your comment. The new version should be 9.9 Mb and can be downloaded from this page now. Other than that, I haven't heard from any others who couldn't start the app. One option is to erase the preferences and let TapNTune rebuild them on open. Also, another strange bug is that if you rename the app, it might not open at all. I'll be addressing that in the next update. Are you running any external audio interfaces?

DNELSON There are very few metronome applications/widgets for Mac, and most have been disappointing. TapNTune is different: it works well, does what you want, and does it well. I highly recommend using this over all others. And hey, it's free!
