DESCRIPTION
Layers is a different and unique screen shot capture tool for Mac designers, developers, technical writers, documentalists and Photoshop aficionados. With Layers you capture every item on your screen --dock, menu and status bar, finder icons, application windows, etc.-- as separate layers in a PSD archive.
Features:
- PSD with all windows and elements, including the cursor, as grouped layers.
- Multiple displays supported.
- Fine tune the capture using the Inspector window.
- Image formats: Layers, composite image or a bunch of image files.
- WebShot: capture complete web pages directly from Safari, Firefox, Chrome, Camino or Opera. Obtain pixel-to-pixel images as you see them in the browsers.
WHAT'S NEW
Version 1.2.1:
- Bug fixed: AppShots added extraneous horizontal lines when capturing vertical scroll areas of certain apps. Those apps doesn\'t overlap properly during the scroll.
- Bug fixed: Front Window capture failed when apps with transparent windows are running but are not visible.
- Front Window Capture now can shot windows that aren\'t in the normal window level; in particular Layers detects Normal, Floating, Modal Panels and Utility Windows. Including most menu panels.
- Major feature Appshots added in 1.2: Layers is now able to capture the full content of most Mac applications windows, even if that content is not visible. Just put the given window in front and press the new key shortcut sh-opt-a or use the new menu item AppShots. Layers will capture an image for each of the scrollable areas of the window, and generate a PSD file or Bunch of Images folder with the full scroll area content in a separate layer.

MIKEEVANGELIST I'll add my five stars to the chorus here. This is a GREAT tool. Anyone who does documentation will be knocked over by how much time it saves. Don't hesitate for a moment to send the twenty bucks. It's awesome! (Version 1.1.6)

DENNY DOUBLEPLUS MARKETING Layers it truly an incredible screen capture application. I'm always amazed when I capture my screen and the open the file up in Photoshop and find that all of the components on my screen are each on a different layer. Truly an ORIGINAL and OUTSTANDING application! (Version 1.1.4)

DARYLF2 I love Layers in general, but the new WebShot feature isn't working for me. It "locks" Firefox 3.5 (the final release that came out today, 2009-06-30) with a spinning power/wait bezel overlaid on top of the Firefox window. I can switch to other apps, but Firefox is locked as the topmost app. The only way I can "release" Firefox from Layers WebShot is to kill the Layers process via Activity Monitor or "killall" from Terminal... I hope they resolve this problem, as WebShot sounds like a TERRIFIC new feature. (Version 1.1)

ANONYMOUS Firefox 3.5 WebShot has not been thoroughly tested yet, is not fully supported in current version of Layers. It's a case of bad timing. Until yesterday, 30th of June, the official Firefox release was 3.0 We'll update Layers very soon. Sorry for the inconveniences. By the way, supported versions are: Safari 3 and 4, Firefox 3.0, WebKit r4185+ and Opera 9.5+ (Version 1.1)

ANONYMOUS DARYLF2, Firefox 3.5 is working fine in our development boxes. Can you contact us to study your case? (support@layersapp.com) (Version 1.1)

SHRALLDAM I just love this application. I've dreamed of something like this for a long time. This is just perfect for any kind of screenshot: forgot to clean your desktop before capturing? Just open the file in Photoshop and hide useless stuff, or even rearrange your items for a better look. The only problem I had was with the licensing file not being recognized after a restart, but version 1.0.3 solved the problem. Layers is a must-have for anyone concerned about screenshots. GCOGHILL Wow, what a cool and original piece of software! I agree with the other post that refers to this as the "Screenflow of screen capture software". Be sure to open up the Inspector, where you can select only the items you want to include in the Photoshop file. Well thought out, easy to use and for what it does the price seems more than reasonable. (Version 1.0.2)

CYBORGSAM Layers is a great new tool. For years I've had to Photoshop screenshots to extract the various elements (windows, menus, menu bar icons, desktop icons), it's so nice to have them in individual layers. IMHO this does not replace SnapZ Pro, it complements it. SnapZ Pro is better when you just want a selected area or need a movie. My only criticism is the default keystrokes which use the shift-option combo interfere with valid characters. I quickly changed them, that process was easy & worked AOK. Other minor gripe: The Buy Now link to me to PayPal's Spanish site, there was no obvious way to change the language to English. I have a PayPal account, so once I logged in it was easy to figure out. Kudos to the developer: this tool is a must-have for me, I write a lot of user docs & help & am always grabbing stuff off the screen. (Version 1.0.1)
