SCRIVENS  Any intention of including known bad peer blocking and encrypted peers only connections? Without those two, yes it is very fast connecting to peers - but a lot of them are ones you really don't want to be using. The lack of protection is curious to say the least.

FARDILHA  ÂµTorrent is legendary for it's speed but on my tests not only it wasn't faster that Transmission, but on some occasions it was actually slower.

Of course it's pretty much impossible to do 2 similar tests with something like torrents, so I'm considering both equivalent speed-wise.

I believe this will be a strong torrent app in a few incarnations, but right now Transmission is better.

THEBRIX2008  Transmission is production but muTorrent is beta ... and it shows.

I agree with others regarding transmission speed, which is significantly superior under muTorrent with my connection. However, after that it is downhill; the muTorrent user interface is more obviously "Mac-like" but, surprisingly, is much less effective at presenting information because there is a lot of white space and a lot of cramped text, whereas Transmission barely has a wasted pixel. And there is significant functionality in Transmission not present in muTorrent, most notably the blocklist of bad clients and the Web interface.

Finally, I am surprised at the elementary mistake of not setting up the file association (so it is not possible to click on a .torrent in Finder and automatically load it into muTorrent); that should have been caught during alpha testing.

IINDIGO  The UI for the Mac port of uTorrent is a mess, and if some of the threads on their Mac design boards are any indication, the developers are entirely too firm-footed on keeping the design as it is. They are against a large number of suggested changes to make it more Mac-like. It's as if they --want-- uTorrent Mac to remain looking like a sloppy Windows port or a crappy Java app.

It may be the best torrent client in the world as far as capabilities go, but if its developers aren't willing to put more effort in it, I won't use it. Transmission will remain my client of choice.

JON555  This app is definitely maturing into one of the best torrent clients for the Mac. It's still got some work to do to get to Transmission's level, but it's moving up there quickly. Keep up the awesome work devs!

BRETTD  After years of development and months of private alphas, we're handed an app that causes "startup disk is full" messages and all sorts of other goofyness that a normal application shouldn't cause.

Sit this one out, unless you've got good backups. There are plenty of alternatives until uTorrent becomes stable.

ANONYMOUS  Still buggy as all get out on PPC machines. Why even claim support when the program barely works? That is what I hate about most applications that are ported from Windows. They usually BARELY work, and have just a few of the features the PC side has. NO THANKS! I cant even get it to stay loaded without it crashing on me, or hanging until I force quit it. Anyone have any advice for PPC owners? :\

AVIDMCUSER  vuze gives me excellent results and runs on java as far as i know. never had it crash and maxes out my bandwidth. yes its got more to offer than a simple low-footprint app but its stable, ram is cheap, and so is hard drive space. go with what works for you and stop mucking around is my advice.

ELEGRAPHY  Why not give Transmission a try? It's easy to use and works great on my Powerbook G4 Titanium.

ANONYMOUS  Yeah Transmission is better than uTorrent. At least right now. I hope the Utorrent folks stop putting out half-assed software for the Mac. :(((

FALKNERX  although the windows version is great, this has got a long road ahead if it wants to have the mac elegance and simplicity of transmission or the feature-set of vuze, but im sure it'll get there one day.

MEEGO  Transmission has come a long way and is now very similar to uTorrent. Small footprint, mostly similar features. I love uTorrent on Windows and was eager to see it on Mac OS X but the incentive to switch has faded with Transmission's progress.

Also, Transmission is open-source.

KILLER KLOWN KAR  I've been using this since the Alpha. Bar far the best and fastest of all the torrent clients. Dunno if it can match the sheer speed of the PC versions but still the best for OSX.

And PLEASE don't give me grief and try to sell me on the advantages of Transmission. Transmission has major flaws in regards to how it deals with retries and if you're on a Torrent site that requires a ratio it doesn't work correctly. Which is why many sites have banned the use of Transmission and if caught using it gets you banned.

NEONBLUE2  They stopped banning Transmission after 0.7.

That was more than a year ago.

TIAGO  No... many sites still ban the latest versions and each minor upgrade has to be approved by staff...

Currently, most "serious" sites don't allow the latest Transmission... You have o downgrade to 1.2x or 1.3x

MEEGO  Could you name a few? I have been using Transmisson for all my P2P downloads lately, on sites I'd consider serious, if not maybe paranoid with BT clients, and never had any problem.
