KKNOPP  I've tried and tried and tried this application soo many times after each upgrade HOPING that it would stay running and not crash on me "unexpectedly" and messing up my torrents. I wont go into the sluggish GUI that beachballs whenever I change the size, or a setting.

No thanks. It's not even usable. Sad, the Windows version is very nice.

Note to the author, you'll find Mac users more picky than Windows users. So why you thought you could put a half-assed version of your application out and we'd gobble it up is beyond me.

EMET1  First off, not using 0.9.3 because it's an alpha. This is a review of 0.9.2.

Using uT in conjunction with TVShows to automate downloads. Had been using Azureus for a long time, but Az hangs up when TVShows drops a torrent. Since Az went to Vuze, it's gotten pretty bloated.

uTorrent:

UI: Very, very basic. If you are used to using Azureus in advanced mode, you'll go a little nuts looking for settings in uT.

Speed is excellent, really.

Easy to use. Had to make a few tweaks in the prefs and it was ready to go.

Worked with TV Shows effortlessly.

Stable.

It's free.

Haven't used the built in search, TVShows does the work for me.

But:

Won't stop seeding at set share ratio. Unacceptable. This is a basic feature that should work out of the box. You should be able to set it and forget it.

My overnight test: I set it to share 3:1, came back in the morning at it was still seeding a 6:1 This is a bug, according to the forums. A bug?

Can't find my overall share ratio, only the ratio for active files. Once I removed the file, there is nowhere in the app to find my stats. A web search tells me this is available on the Windows version. Why not the mac version? Again this is a basic feature that should be there out of the box.

Can't tell if the ipfilter is working. This is basic stuff. Az has a safepeer plugin that I can tell is working. The message log in uT said: Loaded ipfilter.dat (0 entries). This does not instill confidence.

Support: Website FAQ is for the Windows version only. Really, really frustrating, since the two apps are miles apart in development there should be two FAQs.

Conclusion: While I can see the appeal of this little client for basic users, it needs a lot of work to make it a viable alternative for more advanced users. Until they fix that share ratio bug, it's just not ready.

NEMODS  Have to agree and say that the old window UI was better looking, my biggest problem with this version is the crashes and the sidebar where i pick my torrent types doesn't work, is always shows all torrent currently in the program

DOC RENAUD  I do not like the new "windows" look either, but if it was only that... The real problem is this version is constantly crashing. Not sure what the problem is, but reverting to previous version brings everything back to normal.

BLABLABLA@DODGIT.COM  I've just downloaded version 0.9.3 and I've got a really bad impression about the revised UI. It seems that every revised item fails: toolbar icons, sidebar icons, status bar icons, progress bars, tabs. Man, what the hell happened??? By 0.9.2 it was going right (there could be some things to improve), but now we have all this Windows-like things everywhere, I think it's unacceptable, I really can comprehend the changes, being that in general the app was respectful of Apple user interface guidelines, with a sober and system-integrated look and feel. It's not a thing about a different aspect that one just accepts by getting used to it, it's really misaligned, inconsistent. I guess that for regular users it doesn't care that much, but Mac is very well known as the choice by fine designers, so, like me, many more will look elsewhere just to get rid of these ugly interface revision (we know there are fine alternatives out there). BTW, I wonder if there's any chance of adopting Shiizu's icon for the application (http://macthemes2.net/forum/viewtopic.php?id=16794775).

FONTBOT  It was mentioned in the discussion on the uTorrent site that the toolbar icons, at least, are just placeholders and not final (0.9.3 is presently an alpha release). No mention of the other UI regressions, but one can hope that they will also be revised as development continues.

SPRINGHEELMAC  The ONLY thing I don't like about it is you can't download to the same place the torrent file it at. I believe this is why there is always a problem with "hit and runs", because people download a file and then move it somewhere else before they seed. If they added this one thing, it might help. Transmission has this option and when I use it I place the torrent file where the file is supposed to go (say a folder labeled after a TV show) and continue to seed, even while I'm watching the completed download. That way I can even seed the file again later down the road without moving it. Other than that though, good program. I don't even mind there isn't a blocklist; that's what I have PeerGuardian for.

AVIDMCUSER  One thing I dont understand and that is the new version of uTorrent is listed today as a new software update to version 0.9.2... yet, previous comments are dated Sept 15 and Sept 16 for this same version. Hmmm. Is this really a new version that came out today???

REZZO.LATAM  Note: Although the version number hasn't changed on uTorrent, the build has changed (from 16499 to 16725).

JON555  This app is definitely maturing into one of the best torrent clients for the Mac. It's still got some work to do to get to Transmission's level, but it's moving up there quickly. Keep up the awesome work devs!
