DESCRIPTION
PleaseSleep is a utility software designed for Mac OS X that helps put your computer to sleep when you know some other app is preventing your Mac from going to sleep.

PleaseSleep sits in the background and waits for the sleep timer you set in Energy Saver preferences pane. Depending on the preferences you set, PleaseSleep will try to put your computer to sleep when the scheduled sleep timer kicks in. PleaseSleep is very easy to configure, you can enable, disable, and access its preferences via the system menu bar icon. You can choose to have PleaseSleep activate the sleep function all the time, or you can tell PleaseSleep to activate the sleep function only when certain apps are running.

If you use PleaseSleep and are happy with it, we would love if you would consider donating. Donations help pay for bandwidth and help pay for the time spent maintaining and improving the software. Donations are entirely voluntary, and any donation amount is greatly appreciated. To make your donation now, please click the "Donate" button on the right side of this page.

JOHN SAWYER CJS  Thanks for adding the option to allow PleaseSleep "Not to Force Sleep" when certain apps are running. Now I can burn big data optical discs without having to set my Mac's sleep setting to Never.

STIKE  It DOES put my sleepless Macs to sleep, BUT I have set them up to use the "Wake On Demand" feature. The MacBook Pro wakes up when remotely accessed, the recently purchased Mac Mini does not. It does work shortly after putting it to sleep though. So maybe it fails to keep waking up to report its availability in the network?

Wish I could figure this out.

BVILA  I want to love this product because my Mac has insomnia, but PleaseSleep doesn't always work. I come back to my computer often to find that it's still awake. I was excited to see the addition of the Do Not Force Sleep screen, and that seems to work just fine. But PleaseSleep needs to force sleep any time it's supposed to. It seems to be only marginally better than Energy Saver.

GAZMAN  Would really like this as a System Preference rather than taking up valuable menubar space.

TARO_MAC  There was a build issue with the previous upload. Download it again and you should not see the message looping anymore. Thanks.

JOHN SAWYER CJS  I agree--there should be an option for sleeping "Only if any of the following apps is NOT running".

The utility "Narcolepsy" has this option:

ANDREW SCOTT  Lately I've found that my iMac is awake when I return to it after a day at work or in the morning. I don't know what's keeping it awake but it really annoys me. PleaseSleep does what it says quietly and efficiently. Although I've only been running it a short time I'm very pleased with the result. I'm happy to make a donation in a week or so when it's proven to be stable.

153957PHOTOGRAPHY  I think PROPOSAL rather meant that the software should give you the reason why your mac wouldn't go to sleep, so you can potentially fix it, or at least know the cause. And not just software that stops your system from sleeping.
