DESCRIPTION
AddressBookSync is a Mac OS X application to download Facebook profile pictures to Address Book cards. This is a handy tool to keep your contacts' pictures updated if you have numerous Facebook friends in your Mac OS X Address Book.
WHAT'S NEW
Version 1.3:
- Bug fixes for manual matching and sync options
- Show all Facebook matches now, even if there is no available sync data
- Disable sync options check boxes for an data unavailable on Facebook for a match
- Updated to use the latest version of the MKAbeFook framework which handles the facebook login and API calls
Version 1.2:
- Manual Matching! There is now a list of "unmatched" Facebook friends which can be associated with an unmatched contact from Address Book.
- The ability to add new contacts to Address Book from the list of unmatched Facebook friends. The new contact card is pre-populated with any available data from Facebook (Name, Photo, Birthday, Location) and then added to a "Facebook" group in Address Book.
- A Sync Options panel now allows you to customize what data (picture, birthday, location) gets synchronized for each matched person. This panel is accessed from the context menu by ctrl- or right- clicking on a selection of people.
- Saving! The specific friends you sync and the data about them that gets synced is now saved automatically and persists each time you run the program. Chances are if you don't want to synchronize a contact the first time, you probably won't want to the next time either. Manually made matches and photo crop/zoom edits are also automatically saved.
- Diacritic-insensitive name matching now ignores accent marks and other special characters which previously prevented automatic name matching for some names.
- The ability to save Facebook login information. No need to authenticate to Facebook each time you run the program.
REQUIREMENTS
Mac OS X 10.4 or later.

SCOTT.GARDNER 1. I customized some of the settings for matched contacts (e.g., zoom/crop) but did not sync. 2. I went over to the unmatched list and added them as new contacts. 3. I then went back to the matched list, and my custom settings were still visibly displayed. 4. I synced the matched set, and the custom settings were not applied. 5. I redid the custom settings, and then they synced fine. (Version 1.2)

SCOTT.GARDNER Appears to work fine. I had one glitch with my custom settings not being applied the first time, but I redid it and it worked fine the second time. (Version 1.2)

GUILLAUMEK You know what would rock VERY seriously? - social websites (Facebook etc) - email/calendar websites (Gmail, Yahoo, Zimbra) - local social software suites (OSX's Address Book & iCal, Thunderbird, etc) Imagine a one-click solution to sync profile icon, info, status for you and everyone else, plus calendar syncing. I think I'd be ready to pay more than 50€ for that. AddressBookSync does already a lot with Address Book - Facebook. But the concept can reach much further. (Version 1.2)

SIMENSV Works as described except that it pulls down the low resolution thumbs, not highest resolution pics as described (1.1.1.). Especially when cropping, low-resolutions thumbs are insufficient. (Version 1.1.1)

DAVEYOLA this worked PERFECTLY as of 12/8/08 on version 1.1.1 - photos synched up and correctly ignored the ones i told it to ignore, and it pulled in all sorts of birthdays... the only bummer - and this has got ZERO to do with the dev - if a contact is set to show only a birthday without a year, as many folks do, then all of them come up as 2008 perhaps the ability to change that to -minus 15 or 20, assuming most facebook users are at least 15 or 20 years old?? NSTANOSHECK Even though I login to my account it syncs with my daughter's account. She uses Safari, i use Firefox. As such, it makes this worthless to me. (Version 1.1.1)

DAUCLAIR Are you logged in as the user into the mac or is it your daughter's account? The program only syncs to the address book of the person currently logged in. Firefox vs. Safari should have nothing to do with it, whatever Facebook email/password you log in with will sync with the mac Address Book of whoever is logged in. (Version 1.1.1)

NSTANOSHECK My daughter is logged in in Safari, but Safari is not open. I am logged in in Firefox and when the app, asks me to log-in, I log in as me, even though it brings up her account first (in a webkit auto-fill maybe?). Even though I sign in as myself the title bar clearly shows it is her account and the friends listed shows me the same. :-( (Version 1.1.1)

DAUCLAIR That's a really strange issue, sorry you are having trouble. I've tried replicating it but I'm unable to do so. I had another friend log into Facebook in Safari and used the Remember Me checkbox to save a cookie. I then closed Safari and ran AddressBookSync. My friend email started in the username field (this is to be expected) because the Facebook cookie was saved, but when I cleared it and put in my login info it showed my username in the title bar and my friend list. I'm using the MkAbeFook framework for OS X to handle all of the Facebook login detals and API calls (http://pointlesscrap.net/mkabefook/). I'm trying to looking into any known issues with Safari cookies using this framework, but I haven't found anything yet. Just as a test have you tried choosing Reset Safari... under the Safari menu to clear the cache/cookies and then run AddressBookSync and logged in? Anyone else having similar issues with Facebook cookies in Safari? (Version 1.1.1)

NSTANOSHECK I found a fix for me. I uninstalled Safari completely (by using AppCleaner.app) and then reinstalled it, and then AddressBookSync 1.1.1 would let me sync with my own Facebook account. (Version 1.1.1)

DAUCLAIR Just put out a 1.1.1 update which fixes the bug which caused the program to crash on startup for users of 10.4. I'm sorry that got overlooked, I will be sure to test on Tiger before new releases from now on. (Version 1.1)
