DESCRIPTION
Socialite (formerly EventBox) is a beautiful Mac OS X application, designed to make it easy to stay in touch with the social networks and services that matter to you. From news on Digg, photos on Flickr, statuses and photos on Facebook and Twitter updates, to full Google Reader RSS syncing, Socialite keeps all your social networks in one convenient place.
Facebook Built-in Socialite also allows you to sign into your Facebook account, view your friends' status updates, conversations and photos, as well as upload photos to your Facebook albums.
Feed-reading Heaven Socialite is designed to be your one-stop shop for news, and the full support for Google Reader (and its sharing services) makes it easy to keep on top of your RSS feeds. Right from within Socialite you can browse your most recent unread articles, share and star articles as you read them.
If you use the shared items in Google Reader, you'll love the options within Socialite. On top of sharing articles to those who follow you on Google Reader, you can view your friends' recently-shared articles and - if you've added a Twitter account to Socialite - easily post RSS links to the Twitter account of your choice right from inside the application.
Beyond Google Reader If you don't use Google Reader don't worry: you can use Socialite's alternative RSS service. The RSS service allows you to easily subscribe to feeds on your Mac - complete with all the options to share items with any other services you've added to the application.
Tweet Away Socialite knows all about Twitter: and allows you to add as many different Twitter accounts as you want.
On top of the usual Twitter feature set we've also built in some of the most recent Twitter additions for your tweeting pleasure: Lists and all-new Retweets. Socialite displays retweets inline, clearly identified along with the name of the poster, and keeps all the Lists you've created in your sidebar for easy browsing.
There's also the handy 'Profile Peeks' that you can add to your sidebar to keep track of people on Twitter without having to follow them.

PIK80 Ignore these 5 star ratings. While the idea behind Socialite is a good one and one that is badly needed this is still very much what you would expect to see from immature version 1 software. You cant view peoples profile pages, only their feeds. Photo albums are not neatly organized but just a random assortment of photos thrown in the feed. YouTube is one on the most popular social networking sites but is totally MIA. I had high hopes for this software since it is released by the same company that put out the wonderful LittleSnapper. However I found out that the product was just purchased from another company and RealMac didnt really write most of it at this point. Heres hoping that they will resolve all these issues in version 2 and make this program as worthy as LittleSnapper. (Version 1.0.1)

FANCHEE I have really enjoyed Socialite. When I'm busy working, it sits in my dock (or menubar, should you choose) and a quick glance at the unread badge shows me how many items I have to read in twitter, facebook, and my RSS feeds via various sites. It hasn't replaced my netnewswire and tweetie just yet, but for a consolidation for quick looks, it does it's job well. I've only run into one snag in the past day or two.... and that is it seems to have forgotten my twitter credentials and it asks me to authenticate again, which it doesn't allow me to do. So I have to delete my twitter account from socialite, quit the app, delete twitter from my keychain, and launch again. They are aware of the issue and hopefully it gets resolved soon. The icon is great, too! (Version 1.0.1)

DRFRANK EventBox had significant potential, but it looked as though it was destined to live just below most Mac Twitter users' radar. I was delighted when I learned that Realmac Software had acquired EventBox. Why? I use both RapidWeaver and LittleSnapper, the Realmac developers make great stuff and they understand marketing to the Mac community. TweetDeck is trendy and powerful, but I prefer Mac native apps to those that run under Adobe AIR. I've just started testing Socialite. I like the new name and the new icon is clever. Thus far I've only tested the Twitter and Facebook services, but they've both been solid; I currently have over 27,000 Twitter followers and Socialite has been rock solid. The future of Socialite is very promising, I'm anticipating great things. (Version 1.0)

DRFRANK TweetDeck significantly improved: When I last tested TweetDeck, all text was a little fuzzy and I had to reposition the window after every restart. New versions of Adobe AIR and TweetDeck have corrected these quibbles and there have been many other usability improvements. (Version 1.0.1)

STEFANO CECERE i tried it because i had a former EventBox license and i got a free one for Socialite.. wow! i am about to trash the 200Mb memory hunger Tweetdeck! everything works really fine (have 3 twitter accounts and 1 facebook) it's stable (i'm on 10.6.2), fast, intuitive i just miss Facebook pages and LinkedIn. i did a recheck of NOT AIR twitter clients, with multiaccount support (the good Twitterrific just supports 1).. and Socialite is not only the best one, but promises to be developed well, now in the good hands of Realmac Software! MATTHEWLOWERY It is my favourite app on my entire macbook. Its so good! All my networks on one app! Then I can read my Mashable and Wired RSSs too! The Twitter part is very well done. The Twitter HUD alone has more features than Twitterrific! Facebook is pretty basic, but I would appreciate a way to see comments and comment on the posts, photos etc. Flickr too is very well done. Digg is well done ( I dont let Digg change my Unread count otherwise it would be 200+ lol) OneRiot is one of my favourites, it updates itself and tells you when somebody uses that tag! I dont use the others, but I tried Reddit and that too is good. The Cosmic Machine have made a brilliant product. I want to see a V 2.0 before they begin work on an iPhone app. Give them time to get their desktop app to get a fanbase, get good features and come out of beta. Allinall, an f-in brilliant app! VRH This integrates all my newsfeed gathering and social networking into one very friendly interface. This is precisely the solution for which I've been searching! I've been running the pre-release version of EventBox which has been very stable for me and the developers are very responsive. This is a great deal. Things I'd like to see in the future: further flexibility in keyboard commands (already a pretty good job here), some adjustment in 'focus' behaviour, and a way to adjust tolerance for overloaded Twitter servers. ;-) Speaking of Twitter, the 'Smart Folder' feature for Twitter is a wonderful idea -- a big help! Again, in my opinion this app is solid and a great value. (Version 1.0)

MEMPHISBIRD Yes, having all the services integrated is extremely convenient, and the smart folders feature has become a necessity. I also own Tweetie, but I don't use it because I can't filter my tweets like I can in EventBox. The two things I would really like to see are: 1) add an option to the smart folders to show which items are unread. Right now, there is a default smart folder for unread items, but it includes everything. I would like to have an unread option for each service; 2) option to have items that have been read disappear from view, archived or something, so that they don't show up anymore. (Version 1.0)

THEBRIX2008 I use only part of the functionality (RSS, Google Reader, Twitter). That said ... EventBox is the only OS X feed reader I have found that synchronises with Google Reader - perfectly, as it turns out - and it is elegantly done. There are lots of subtle but meaningful graphic effects, hotkeys for everything, and many alert options - sound, Growl, a well-designed heads-up (white on black) display, highlights in the Dock, a Menu Bar item ... most of which can be set for all feeds or per-feed. My only reservation is that the application doesn't have its own browser; the Web pages linked to feeds open in the default Web browser. It would be nice to have some sort of embedded interface as a space-saver on a laptop screen. I will not be going back to Web interfaces; EventBox is faster, better-looking, easier to use and more tweakable, and $15 is not much for what it offers. (Version 1.0r580)
