DESCRIPTION
Socialite (formerly EventBox) is a beautiful Mac OS X application, designed to make it easy to stay in touch with the social networks and services that matter to you. From news on Digg, photos on Flickr, statuses and photos on Facebook and Twitter updates, to full Google Reader RSS syncing, Socialite keeps all your social networks in one convenient place.
Facebook Built-in Socialite also allows you to sign into your Facebook account, view your friends' status updates, conversations and photos, as well as upload photos to your Facebook albums.
Feed-reading Heaven Socialite is designed to be your one-stop shop for news, and the full support for Google Reader (and its sharing services) makes it easy to keep on top of your RSS feeds. Right from within Socialite you can browse your most recent unread articles, share and star articles as you read them.
If you use the shared items in Google Reader, you'll love the options within Socialite. On top of sharing articles to those who follow you on Google Reader, you can view your friends' recently-shared articles and - if you've added a Twitter account to Socialite - easily post RSS links to the Twitter account of your choice right from inside the application.
Beyond Google Reader If you don't use Google Reader don't worry: you can use Socialite's alternative RSS service. The RSS service allows you to easily subscribe to feeds on your Mac - complete with all the options to share items with any other services you've added to the application.
Tweet Away Socialite knows all about Twitter: and allows you to add as many different Twitter accounts as you want.
On top of the usual Twitter feature set we've also built in some of the most recent Twitter additions for your tweeting pleasure: Lists and all-new Retweets. Socialite displays retweets inline, clearly identified along with the name of the poster, and keeps all the Lists you've created in your sidebar for easy browsing.
There's also the handy 'Profile Peeks' that you can add to your sidebar to keep track of people on Twitter without having to follow them.
WHAT'S NEW
Version 1.0.2:
- Entirely re-worked Twitter, Flickr and Facebook connection system. If you were experiencing issues where you would be locked out of your account, re-adding the account to Socialite in 1.0.2 will fix this.
- Added a new Twitter ‘My Timeline’ option, so that users can easily view just tweets from people they follow (and exclude Lists).
- New “Quote Tweet” feature that allows users to repost (with additions) existing tweets. Please use the old-style retweet responsibly.
- Fixed an issue which showed Profile Peek avatars upside-down.
- Minor typo and name improvements in the application.
- Increased character limit for Direct Messages in the Twitter plugin.
- Bound Cmd + Return to Send DMs in the DM HUD.
- Lots of other small fixes and enhancements.
- Changed demo limitation to ‘2 services’. Customers who currently use the demo with three services can, however, keep using Socialite for free with three services. This limitation only applies to new libraries created.
REQUIREMENTS
Mac OS X 10.5 or later.

APPLEHC Hmm, that exactly what I am talking of: You might have noticed that we’re featured on MacHeist and it’s a free download. I expect many people to ask the question why buy it then? Here’s the short answer: the MacHeist Edition of EventBox is not the same as regular EventBox. Here are the reasons: * The MacHeist edition includes no official support whatsoever. If you’re having a problem or want to request a feature, you’re probably out of luck. * Most importantly, the MacHeist edition includes no updates at all. This means you’re forever stuck at build 566. Since we’re planning on adding many many new features in the future, you’re essentially going to be running an ancient version. I’m talking about syncing, multiple accounts, TwitPic, centralized notifications, more services. We will be adding TONS of new stuff. And this is only up until version 1.0. We’re planning to have a very long 1.x series, so buying EventBox now will last you at least 1.5-2 years. * We’ve got permission from Digg and we will be returning their plugin as soon as possible. You won’t be able to use Digg from the MacHeist edition." As far as I know there were only two developers so far, that tried something similar, product were GraphicCoverter and SpeedDownload. It created a lot of problems. Both developer fonud a reasonable solution. But you cannot just write a blog entry and then offer an autoamtic (!) update feature that smply cancels your licence information and sets you back to a trial. I am a regular shareware user and I bought roughly 200 shareware products in the last 5 years. It´s not about paying money for software and reasonably upgrades. But I do not like to offer some special deal and then just trying to urge existing customers to a payment by simply locking them out. Then just call it a trial what it actually was.. PIK80 Ignore these 5 star ratings. While the idea behind Socialite is a good one and one that is badly needed this is still very much what you would expect to see from immature version 1 software. You canÂ’t view peopleÂ’s profile pages, only their feeds. Photo albums are not neatly organized but just a random assortment of photos thrown in the feed. YouTube is one on the most popular social networking sites but is totally MIA. I had high hopes for this software since it is released by the same company that put out the wonderful LittleSnapper. However I found out that the product was just purchased from another company and RealMac didnÂ’t really write most of it at this point. HereÂ’s hoping that they will resolve all these issues in version 2 and make this program as worthy as LittleSnapper. (Version 1.0.1)

THEBRIX2008 I use only part of the functionality (RSS, Google Reader, Twitter). That said ... EventBox is the only OS X feed reader I have found that synchronises with Google Reader - perfectly, as it turns out - and it is elegantly done. There are lots of subtle but meaningful graphic effects, hotkeys for everything, and many alert options - sound, Growl, a well-designed heads-up (white on black) display, highlights in the Dock, a Menu Bar item ... most of which can be set for all feeds or per-feed. My only reservation is that the application doesn't have its own browser; the Web pages linked to feeds open in the default Web browser. It would be nice to have some sort of embedded interface as a space-saver on a laptop screen. I will not be going back to Web interfaces; EventBox is faster, better-looking, easier to use and more tweakable, and $15 is not much for what it offers. (Version 1.0r580)

GCOGHILL I am always confused when a developer doesn't make new versions reset the demo period. There's no way to test out new features. Especially during beta releases, this would seem beneficial to all. (Version 1.0r557)

THE GRAPHIC MAC You can send them an email, or contact them on twitter to get the demo reset if you're interested. (Version 1.0r558)

GCOGHILL I just got one, I tweeted them about the issue and they mentioned the same. Thanks! (Version 1.0r558)

JAKEFOWLER This is a great little app for keeping up with the social networks. My Twitter postings have increased as a result (in quantity, if not quality). The developer is VERY responsive. I'm an impressed and happy user! (Version 1.0r557)

FANCHEE I have really enjoyed Socialite. When I'm busy working, it sits in my dock (or menubar, should you choose) and a quick glance at the unread badge shows me how many items I have to read in twitter, facebook, and my RSS feeds via various sites. It hasn't replaced my netnewswire and tweetie just yet, but for a consolidation for quick looks, it does it's job well. I've only run into one snag in the past day or two.... and that is it seems to have forgotten my twitter credentials and it asks me to authenticate again, which it doesn't allow me to do. So I have to delete my twitter account from socialite, quit the app, delete twitter from my keychain, and launch again. They are aware of the issue and hopefully it gets resolved soon. The icon is great, too! (Version 1.0.1)

VRH This integrates all my newsfeed gathering and social networking into one very friendly interface. This is precisely the solution for which I've been searching! I've been running the pre-release version of EventBox which has been very stable for me and the developers are very responsive. This is a great deal. Things I'd like to see in the future: further flexibility in keyboard commands (already a pretty good job here), some adjustment in 'focus' behaviour, and a way to adjust tolerance for overloaded Twitter servers. ;-) Speaking of Twitter, the 'Smart Folder' feature for Twitter is a wonderful idea -- a big help! Again, in my opinion this app is solid and a great value. (Version 1.0)

MEMPHISBIRD Yes, having all the services integrated is extremely convenient, and the smart folders feature has become a necessity. I also own Tweetie, but I don't use it because I can't filter my tweets like I can in EventBox. The two things I would really like to see are: 1) add an option to the smart folders to show which items are unread. Right now, there is a default smart folder for unread items, but it includes everything. I would like to have an unread option for each service; 2) option to have items that have been read disappear from view, archived or something, so that they don't show up anymore. (Version 1.0)

GCOGHILL Promising app. Would like to see support for multiple Twitter/Flickr accounts (if that's even possible). I'd also like to see more of a distinction between the Events for the different services offered (color coding perhaps?). It's hard to distinguish between Facebook status updates and Twitter updates. Better keyboard shortcuts for Twitter are a must, not simple enough to do replies and direct messages (Cmd-R & Cmd-D perhaps?). Also, needs a one-handed keystroke for cycling through events (like Spacebar, and perhaps Shift-Spacebar to go in reverse). Overall though a cool app. My demo will probably expire before it's at a stage that it feels ready for actual use though. (Version 1.0r546)

STEFANO CECERE i tried it because i had a former EventBox license and i got a free one for Socialite.. wow! i am about to trash the 200Mb memory hunger Tweetdeck! everything works really fine (have 3 twitter accounts and 1 facebook) it's stable (i'm on 10.6.2), fast, intuitive i just miss Facebook pages and LinkedIn. i did a recheck of NOT AIR twitter clients, with multiaccount support (the good Twitterrific just supports 1).. and Socialite is not only the best one, but promises to be developed well, now in the good hands of Realmac Software! GLOBETROTTERDK I would like to see subject searches and trend registration - at the very least for Twitter. (Version 1.0r546)
