PHIL U.  Looks great - has a nice looking interface. Couple little usability things (such as the option for pasting location to multiple images not being where I'd expect it) but nothing really glaring.

Has some more serious issues though. Obviously not multithreaded - only utilizes one processor core. Noticed this when working with a medium sized track log and a relatively small number of images - about 150 (somewhat non-productive one day road-trip shoot). Was quite slow loading/processing the track and matching images to the track. If I was working with a larger data set it would likely be excruciatingly slow.

Also, it crashed (bombed Aperture also) immediately after it popped up a message saying that it couldn't find altitude info and would retry later. Not sure if that's why it crashed, but it was immediately after that. This crash happened within the first 15 minutes of working with the plug-in - doesn't bode well for the future.

I'd really like to love this plug-in. I'd be great to integrate my geotagging into Aperture. Would probably even pay the $40 (although the price seems high). That's a premium price for what this plug-in does so it'd have to at a premium level of polish, performance, and stability which it doesn't appear to be. For now I think I'll stick with the free geotagging tools available before importing to Aperture.

KBEAT  Great way to bring GPS to Aperture. If you've been envious of "Places" on iPhoto and are looking to fill in the gap until Aperture 3 arrives with it's own version, then use Maperture Pro. It's easy, intuitive, well-designed, and simply fun.

I use my iPhone to gather GPS logs when I'm out shooting, and Maperture Pro to marry the data to my RAW images. It's a beautiful combination and a great way to get into GeoTagging.

MACVAULT  I'm using Aperture 2.1.1 and OS X 10.5.4 (all updates) and the maperture plug in fails to load the Google maps at all. I've tried this on 2 different machines, a MBPro and a MacPro. Is it me, or is this thing completely broken? Doesn't work at all for me.

    UBERMIND  Hey there,

I apologize for the length delay in response! Do you have, or did you have, the Safari 4 BETA installed on your system? There is a known issue when using the BETA of Safari 4 from Apple. Please see our FAQ section for more information...

Why doesn't the map show up when I try to use Maperture?

This is caused by a conflict with the Safari 4 beta. We are working on this issue, but until it is resolved, you will need to remove the Safari beta to use Maperture.

TEEJAY38  So far working very well, although a UK home address seems to cause it to throw an initial wobbly. Maybe not such a good idea to have the user's home address as a default as most people take pictures away from home anyway. And Google Maps address database never was very comprehensive for the UK. Inserting a general location address inn the search box puts you in the right area and you can then navigate more closely to the location in the normal way.

    ANONYMOUS  Hey there,

We have released Maperture Pro which has better handling of these type of errors returned from Google Maps, but some UK based addresses will still have to be simplified in order to find the location. But you can modify your default map location from within the preferences now to any location you desire... even a ZIP code. Hope this helps. Thanks again!
