DESCRIPTION
BitEncrypt... Not one Mac OS X program has delivered a simple way to encrypt and decrypt files with a secret key. BitEncrypt is a new free application that allows for simple file encryption, allowing you to be confident that the file is safe. BitEncrypt uses solid 256-bit AES encryption; the same standard that the United States uses at a highly secret level.
WHAT'S NEW
Version 1.2.2: BitEncrypt now notifies the user if trying to encrypt an unsupported filetype which may not be decryptable.

Version 1.2.1: This update fixes newly discovered issues with the check for updates feature on certain computers.

Version 1.2: BitEncrypt version 1.2 now has help and update checking built right into the application along with enhancements to the encryption and decryption process.

REQUIREMENTS
Mac OS X 10.5 or later.

BEAMY  BitEncrypt is a great idea and has a nice GUI, but it seems to have some problems and does not work with all files...

Why not making it open source, so that more people can help to improve it ?

CALIGULA  Alright macgeek914,

this will be my last word about it.

This is what happend to me: I wrote a letter to someone, 4 pages, decypted it with your _non-beta app_, deleted the original file cause it was a private letter, tried to open the encrypted file hours later at home to print it, - and could'nt open it anymore. So I lost my work and I wasn't in the best mood while I wrote my review.

I know that some files decrypt well, I tried it before, but some files don't.

So if you had feedbacks that there are problems with your app I think _you_ should warn your expected users about that, criticizing reviews isn't the right way you should handle that problem imho.

I'm not your enemy, I just don't like the risks your app brings to the users.

And please let _me_ choose if I want to spent the time to help you to bugfix your app, or just warn other users. I'm not a member of your team, freeware or not.

You can talk to the admin if you don't want to see negative reviews of your app here, maybe he will delete it for your pleasure.

But think of it.

Peace macgeek914.

MACGEEK914  I'm sorry you had those issues with the letter, and I found the cause of the issue in the program code. I am working on a fix and 1.3 will be out soon!

Sorry you lost the letter, have a nice day.

CALIGULA  What is this?

An unsecure security app?

Most files I tested won't decrypt.

went to the best place for it: the trash...

MACGEEK914  You could at least consider talking to us about how you are producing the problems before rating it poorly. That's a shame...

TICE  If you encrypt an .rtfd (which is a folder) you get no errormessage - BUT! if you decrypt it later the document is EMTY! That can be a bad awakening if you thought you could trash the original file.

CAREFUL!!

NOTAFOOL  So far, all I have attempted to do is to try out the program by encrypting a couple of separate documents, individually. They are not in a folder and I have simply been testing your program with each document individually - to see whether it works satisfactorily and just how to use it. As I said before, sometimes it works smoothly, but frequently it does not.

MACGEEK914  Have you noticed any patterns in what kind or names of files generally don't work and what kind do? I have been trying out many different documents now and it seems to work just fine for me. Does your username have any strange characters in it?

NOTAFOOL  I've noticed no patterns at all. And "No". My username key is perfectly normal.

MACGEEK914  Unfortunately I've found no reasons it won't perform correctly on your machine... It works just fine for me and many others. Thank you for understanding.

NOTAFOOL  I also encounter decryption problems as described.

Sometimes decryption works, but frequently it does not and I get an error message. The program, unfortunately, seems to be unstable/unreliable at this point in time. I am using an Intel iMac G5, running OSX 10.5.4

MACGEEK914  Hi notafool, I am sorry you are having trouble. Option-6 has had many people test BitEncrypt and we have encountered no problems; or at least we have and they seem to have been fixed. Are you trying to encrypt/decrypt a folder? More information would help significantly. Thanks.

BOBMAC  Macgeek914 - the new release (1.1) works just dandy on my MBP 10.5.4 - love the new interface. Thanks for the rewrite of this - it cleared up whatever weird problem I had with 1.0 and 1.0.1.

MACGEEK914  Hi bobmac: Unfortunately I can't find any reason why the application won't perform correctly on your machine. All of my beta testers and myself have no issues with the encryption functions, and I'm using Mac OS X 10.5.4 too...

I'm extremely sorry about this, a complete rewrite of BitEncrypt is in the works.
