NATE HOULE This app rocks! It just keeps getting better and better. Its definitely my favorite recipe manager, by a long shot. I feel guilty calling it a "recipe manager", it does soooooooooo much more. Shopping lists, portion conversion, access to nutritional information, etc. etc. One thing I can say about MacGourmet Deluxe that I can rarely say about any other application (regardless of genre) is that everything I've wanted to do, it does. This application is super intuitive. I can honestly say that I cook more now than ever before because of MacGourmet Deluxe. The developers have seriously thought of everything. Thanks a bunch Mariner, keep up the great work! (Version 1.2)

DARYLF2 Is there any disadvantage to buying this "bundle" over the standard version direct from Advenio.com? For example, if the distribution deal with Mariner Software ends, will I be able to continue to get free updates of MacGourmet and the three plugins from Advenio? I'm a little leery of buying the bundle because of this... (Version 1.1)

XENOPHILE Good questions. I'm curious, too. This arrangement between Advenio and Mariner is confusing. I don't understand the point. Are Advenio planning to abandon MacGourmet and sell it to Mariner? If not, how do they benefit from letting Mariner lard MacGourmet with bloat and then take a cut of their profits? I don't care for Mariner at all. They have a history of acquiring killer apps only to transform them into bloatware. Mariner developers seem to have little creativity or sense of function, so they bloat all the wonderful apps they buy with a dizzying array of features. I was a dedicated MacJournal user until Mariner bought it, and within a year or so the lean and quick journaling app I knew and loved was expensive bloatware. I love MacGourmet because it's a killer recipe manager. I'm not looking for something that analyzes nutritional content and creates shopping lists based on meal plans for the next month. I do plan meals, but I also like to be inspired, and I like to create or discover new dishes based on what's left in my fridge. I like to cook what I feel like eating, not what some list I made a week ago tells me I'm supposed to eat. Are you listening, Advenio/Mariner? Instead of larding your app with nutrition data and rigid scheduling, how about doing something creative? Instead of a rote nutrition database for ingredients, how about a feature that takes what's left in my fridge and pantry, and lists the recipes I can use with those ingredients? Instead of a scheduler, how about a feature that analyzes what meals I tend to cook on each weekday, and then lists the recipes I've used the fewest times for a particular day of the week? Do something exciting, not this dull bloated crap. (Version 1.2)

ADVENIO SUPPORT @XENOPHILE: Honestly, I don't understand your beef. You do realize that MacGourmet is still available as it always has been, that you don't have to purchase Deluxe, or any of the "bloat" as you call it, right? Mariner didn't acquire the product. It's just a cheaper retail bundle. It's a distribution deal, I still own it and develop it. Period. If you have a problem with it, just ignore Deluxe and stick with the standard version of MacGourmet. As to what might happen at the end of the distribution deal, it's not a short term deal, and in the event of termination, there would be some kind of path back to the regular Advenio product. QUICKBEN I originally received this as part of a MU Promo bundle. I sent it my wife's way and she loves it. I've even taken to d/l recipes from some of the online resources. It's quite simple to use and the layout (gui) is exceptional. Nice program for a very reasonable price. Plus, it has a good beat and you can dance to it. (Version 1.1)

JESSICA BRAMEL I find the possibilities of this program to be really exciting for anyone who likes to have things they care about, in this case cooking and wine, organized and accessible. It gives you one place to plan meals, access recipes & wines, rate them, create them and you can also make a cook book. I gave it a 4 because there are a few things that I think could improve. 1. When adding a meal or what you actually going to prepare you have to go down to the wheel for each step and that made me frustrated. I just wanted to be able to click on Breakfast and fill in what we will be having. Am I getting lazy or what! 2. I also wish was that they had an icon on the main work page where I could just click on for the meal plan. It would just be nice to have a visual of it. There is a short-cut to meal planning which almost makes up it. 3. The shopping list is a little difficult to figure out from the meal planning section. However they do have a user guide that can be very helpful. I had plans on creating such a system but to be honest I would rather cook. Now I just need to find one of those covers for my key board so I can go create some new secret family recipes! You can also take pictures of your master piece and add it to your recipe. JESSICA BRAMEL I just wanted to correct part of my review from before. I noted that it would be helpful to be able to actually have the Meal Plan as and Icon. Well I just found myself able to do that very thing by going under view and then to customize tool bar. Very nice thank you Marine software. (Version 1.0.5)

KRYSIA Just an FYI, taken from the MacGourmet FAQ section of their website (http://macgourmet.com/faq.html): "Q: What is the difference between MacGourmet and MacGourmet Deluxe? A: Mariner Software is redistributing MacGourmet and its plug-ins as a discounted retail bundle, all in one convenient package, at one price, called MacGourmet Deluxe. The standard version of MacGourmet (still available here for $24.95), which you can add optional plug-ins to, is exactly the same as what is in the "boxed" Deluxe version, and it is still available as it always has been. So, you can buy a bundle (Deluxe) with everything: Mealplan, Cookbook and Nutrition, or, if you just want a simpler product, buy MacGourmet from macgourmet.com and add a plug-in, or not, it's up to you." XENOPHILE Mariner has a history of aquiring brilliant shareware apps, jacking the price, and bloating them beyond all recognition. This approach is evident in the "deluxe" version of MacGourmet, which will not remain a lean and focused app for long. (Version 1.1)

ADVENIO SUPPORT @xenophile: This is a only distribution deal. The product continues to be developed exactly as it was before, and ownership has not changed in any way. Mariner sells a bundle of everything, into markets I can't access on my own. The standard basic version still exists and will continue to exist, and the price hasn't changed on that since 2004. VERYCARLA Looks nice, seems to work well, but can someone please tell me what good the nutritional information feature will be if the app doesn't have some basic vegetables in its list? (Version 1.0.5)

JIMOHIO628 I have been looking for a cookbook/database program that I could use to help me with planning and preparing meals, and I have found it with MacGourmet Deluxe. Wow! I don't write many reviews, but this app is perfect for what I need. I am retired on disability, and one of my chores, while my wife works, is to have dinner ready when she gets off work. This is an all in one application that is making cooking different things so easy. You can publish to your .mac account, and since I have an iWeb family blog that my adult children read (they live literally all over the U.S, in Colorado, Texas, Indiana, Ohio, Kansas), I can share some of the wonderful recipes that I find, in addition to sending them some of the families all time favorites, which they always seem to call for, telling me "I can't find the recipe, Dad". Another neat feature is the ability to sync to iCal. For meal planning that is awesome. The way this application works with the best that OS X has, makes using it a pleasure. It is intuitive, and I did not need to dig to find out how to do things. You can also export to your PDA, making shopping at the grocery that much easier. One more thing: Within the first hour of trying out this application, I was able to download so many recipes, you wouldn't believe it. Lots of recipes from Rachael Ray, Mario Batalli, and many of the chefs from Food Network. I rate this application five stars, easily. (Version 1.0.4)
