DESCRIPTION
RipIt... Movies are great, but discs are a pain. RipIt gets your movies off the disc and onto your Mac, where it's easier to find, organize and play them.

Why Rip Your DVDs?

  • Use your laptop longer!
Laptops use a lot more juice when they're spinning a DVD and a hard drive.
  • Easily organize your movies!
Moving files around on your computer is a lot easier than alphabetizing shelves full of DVDs.
  • Find movies faster!
Use your Mac's built in search tool, Spotlight, to find a movie in your collection... instantly.
  • Peace of mind!
Movies stored safely in your computer can't get lost, scratched or broken.
  • Simplify entertainment on the go!
Why carry around bulky DVD cases or disc wallets when you don't have to?

**...

CERNIUK  Bought RipIt because of the potential for improved workflow for ripping my purchased DVDs to my entertainment system (macmin + HDTV, apple TV + HDTV, appleTV + HDTV, TimeCapsule for wireless streaming for all). All of our video goes onto the minimac server to not only provide it via library to all 3 sets but also to keep the DVD poltergeist away from the purchased media (3 children /and/ wife). I was losing about $200/year prior to ripping my DVDs

So the first DVD I threw at it, Horton Hears a Who, failed. RipIt failed gracefully and even offered to send back the title so it could be analyzed. Nicely done. I then turned around and used MacTheRipper (3.0) and it ripped to my system without issue.

I now need to go back and compress this to H.264 (HD compression format) with any of : Turbo.264 (cool processor adaptor, flakey app with bad output), HandBrake (excellent technically, nice queueing, crashes and has a poorly designed interface) or potentially RipIt (untested, not holding breath). Well, RipIt cannot take a folder full of DVD data and compress it :-(… Back to the other two...

I hope this app gets better but for an out of the box experience, not so good so far. I really want something that will 1) pull TVOD to the HD fast, 2) build a queue of compression, 3) utilize the QuickTime engine to either enable it's own CODEC or give me the option of using others (aka the Turbo.264)

REVCO  Compress keeps getting the aspect ratio wrong. Using High Quality MP4 setting and I should be getting wide screen but it's outputting 4:3. Also appears that ripped discs are deleted once compress does its thing.

LOKHEED  Yes I caught that in the Preferences pane. I'm not sure how it works, if it's always applied or how we can turn it off. Regardless, programmers that don't mention anything about new versions really do their userbase a huge disservice, not to mention their product as well. A good example is this new feature. It has gone pretty much unnoticed... a shame really. It's all about the details.

PUKKY  Do not waste your money with this software! Mac DVDRipper Pro is almost twice faster than RipIt, and it have less problems and works with tiger and is more cheap!

SHMK  Seriously dude giving multiple 1 star ratings (10 days apart no less) to this product and multiple 5 star ratings (2 weeks apart) for Mac DVDRipper Pro just looks bad for the developer of Mac DVDRipper Pro. Comment all you want but stop it will the multiple ratings already (same to you BIBLIOPHILE).

DARKLORD  This app is okay, but not great. The interface is about the only thing this app has going for it. $20 for a DVD ripping program is a little on the expensive side. Mac DVDRipper Pro is by far a better app and value. Mac DVDRipper Pro is half the price of Ripit, and is a lot faster too. Plus Mac DVDRipper Pro let's you save your rips as disc image which bypasses the new security features that a lot of the DVD manufacturers are adding nowadays. Such as DVDs showing with extremely large disc sizes, like 31GB for the new Star Trek DVD (which is impossible for a DVD to hold that much data).

I really don't know why Macworld gave their Eddy Award to Ripit over Mac DVDRipper Pro.

JOHNSMITH  RipIt gets around those really large disc images by being intelligent, noticing the issues and avoiding them. The new Star Trek rips perfectly!

DARKLORD  It's nice to see that Ripit now fixes this issue; however I still prefer the performance and price that Mac DVDRipper Pro offers compared to Ripit.

PACMAN  So awesome that I bought it as soon as I got my credit card. =)

This thing just works. My full recommendation.

I now have all my DVDs on my harddisk for smooth playback!

MTR is good, but this thing beats MTR off the shelf! :)

GRYPHONENT  I've purchased this application as part of the MacUpdate promotion. Since the developer decided to change the registration logic for the application I'm unable to use it. The download link that was provided as part of the registration confirmation on MacUpdate does not produce the required serial file anymore. Requests to send an updated version of the serial file or a serial number that allows me to run newer versions of RipIt remain unanswered.

I've tried to contact the developer at least six times without receiving a single reply. The site that is supposed to generate a new serial does not work either. I'm disappointed. Does anybody else have a similar experience with this developer and application?

DR. GIRLFRIEND  Direct Link To Lost License Form on the developer's website:

https://secure.thelittleappfactory.com/store/lost_license/

Simply input your email address (the one used to purchase the app). I just tried it and my serial number arrived within a few minutes. No complaints here.

DR. GIRLFRIEND  Sorry you're having such a hard time, Gryphonet. Have you tried posting a message asking for help on their forums?

http://forums.thelittleappfactory.com/

It looks like they've been answering some user questions there today; you might get lucky. As a last resort, you could try to contact: misha(at symbol)macupdate

He can sometimes get through to hard-to-reach developers when all else fails.

WATSON76421  Works very well for me, I haven't encountered any of the "out of order" problems.

Just had trouble with a Star Trek 2009 DVD, but that will likely be fixed soon...

BIBLIOPHILE  Ripit was sold to an Australian company earlier this year. That might explain the changes in licensing, etc. It was developed and previously supported by TastyApps.
