DESCRIPTION
RipIt... Movies are great, but discs are a pain. RipIt gets your movies off the disc and onto your Mac, where it's easier to find, organize and play them.
Why Rip Your DVDs?
- Use your laptop longer!
Laptops use a lot more juice when they're spinning a DVD and a hard drive.
- Easily organize your movies!
Moving files around on your computer is a lot easier than alphabetizing shelves full of DVDs.
- Find movies faster!
Use your Mac's built in search tool, Spotlight, to find a movie in your collection... instantly.
- Peace of mind!
Movies stored safely in your computer can't get lost, scratched or broken.
- Simplify entertainment on the go!
Why carry around bulky DVD cases or disc wallets when you don't have to?

GHOSTWRITER I had purchased in the past 2 versions of this nice little app! One from a Macupdate promo and one direct from the shareware author/publisher. I just tries to install version 1.3 and it wants serial key. None of my serials seem to work, so I emailed support and was issued a new key, however, I don't remember this application being part of a company in Australia called "The Little App Factory." What am I missing here? (Version 1.3)

ITTY Still the best at what it was designed to do. The fastest, easiest way to back up a DVD. It will need another update to handle the recently released Pixar's UP. But for every other disk I have tried, RipIt comes thru with flying colors. (Version 1.3)

DEMORAY In a previous review I gave RipIt five stars. I still use and love RipIt, as it has ripped many DVDs that other ripping apps couldn't manage. RipIt's decryption capabilities are the best I've come across for the Mac. However in recent weeks I've experienced a rather serious problem with RipIt that I've seen mentioned by others users. RipIt will report a rip as being completed successfully, even when the rip is actually defective. It's one thing for rip software to fail a rip, they all do it occasionally. It's another thing entirely for rip software to fail a rip and yet report it as successful. In my case this problem has only occurred two times in about forty rips. Not bad odds. Yet the serious nature of this flaw means I now need to check each ripped file to make certain that it's a one-for-one copy of the original. This issue needs to be addressed by the developers ASAP. COLOSSUS9 @ MDRPRO, you are in a class all by itself. Kudos to you. I have converted to MDRP as well. I knew soon as 'The Little App Factory' bought this application it would become substandard. RipIt development was moving along substantially prior to The Lil App Factory. (Version 1.2.12)

MSM126 It's been over a month. Multiple attempts at getting an email response from the developer on the numerous issues with this app. No reply. The claimed successful rip rate for this app is bogus. Do NOT buy it with out first trying to rip movies AND watching the rips. The app reports success, yet when you watch the ripped movies you'll find that I high percentage are messed up with chapters out of order, repeated and in some cases missing. Try ripping Bolt. Try ripping many others. Just make sure you watch them, rather than relying on RIpIt to tell you whether the rip is successful. (Version 1.2.12)

MDRPRO Try Mac DVDRipper Pro (free trial). At least I respond to support requests! (Version 1.2.12)

COLOSSUS9 I sent an email a few weeks back and never received a response. The developer was quick to respond (here) on the latest update. I have a feeling this is going to be abandoned, due to the lack of updates. =( (Version 1.2.12)

MSM126 RipIt has a very simple UI, which is great if the product worked as reliably as claimed. I bought RipIt as we have a 600+ DVD library that I'm converting for use on a Mac mini based home theater PC running PLEX. (PLEX is simply awesome!) In my experience the developer claims about successful rip rates are grossly overstated. Worse yet, not a single reply to any of my emails for support. Summary of my results with RipIt: - 32% failure rate in successfully ripping DVDs That's outrageous and I guess a contributing factor to the disappearance of the user forums that were previously hosted by the developer. What makes RipIt especially troublesome is that it reports DVDs as successfully ripped almost 100% of the time. I had 3 movies out of 157 that RipIt reported at the end of the process were not ripped and 2 DVDs that just crashed the software. That's 5 out of 157, not bad at all. Until my family starts watching the ripped DVDs and starts to discover how jumbled, messed up and in some cases just in complete the rips are. Chapters out of order, repeated chapters and in some cases movies that were clearly missing large chunks of the movie. This is hands down the worst software I've ever purchased. The UI is great, but the actual software just doesn't work reliably. I've switched back to using Handbrake. UI is not as slick. It takes longer, but the plus being you end up with a file less than 1/2 the size. Oh, and the BIG plus? It works. (Version 1.2.12)

R33C3 I agree with you entirely. I ripped "Bolt" Successfully, to discover the front of the movie or the start, was in the middle, it copied itself. Try Mac DVD Ripper PRO, hasnt failed me once :) cheers, Reece (Version 1.2.12)

JOHNNY ROCKET I've been using RipIt for a while now and love it. Simple, easy, and VERY good at its job. I just upgraded my iMac to Snow Leopard and RipIt still works great and is fully 64-bit! awesome job to the developers! (Version 1.2.12)

ROBO-X I got it finally working after I got the new version from the developers new webpage. It must be the easiest DVD ripper on the Mac. I just tried on two DVDs but it was fast and extremely easy to use. Fantastic app.

I recently downloaded demos for 7 of the most popular DVD ripping apps available for the Mac, (I wont mention names), because I was having problems ripping a few recently purchased DVD movies. In short, all apps failed to rip these particular movies except RipIt. There were various issues and errors given by the other 6 apps, some due to limitations of the rip software, some due to my particular system, (2009 Intel iMac), and several due to copy protection on the DVDs. Nevertheless, RipIt ripped every DVD I gave it without a single problem! I will be buying this app. If your ripping software is working for you, great, stick with it. But if you're running into problems ripping DVDs like I was, check out RipIt. It WILL RipIt, and RipIt good. [whip-crack sound] (Version 1.2.12)
