DESCRIPTION
iBackupSafari allows you to backup all your bookmarks from Safari. This can be handy when you want to use the same bookmarks on another Mac or when you have to re-install Mac OS X.

With this application it's very easy to create a backup file and restore the bookmarks from that file.

You can also restore the bookmarks on another Macintosh! The location of the restored bookmarks in Safari will be in the exact same place as before you created the backup file!

F451  Actually, I appreciate this a great deal as I told my mother to use it on here iMac. This is a real timesaver over having to explain to her where to find the files. Thanks!

ZWILLIAMS  Seriously? A 4.8MB application to basically do what any user can and go to ~/Library/Safari/ and select the file and then choose "Compress 'Bookmark.plist'" from the contextual menu?

TIM.DEHRING  Or, go to File-->Export Bookmarks to backup, then File-->Import Bookmarks to restore.

JORIS VERVUURT  This application is just for people who want to do it easy. Not everybody wants to go into his System folder...

And when you export the bookmarks from safari, they wont get imported in the bookmarks menu and the bookmark bar... They will be placed in a folder.

CALL ME YO DADDY  The fact that this restores the bookmarks bar menu is all the reason to use this. Simply backing up your book marks list does not do this.

~/Library/Safari isn't the System folder (i.e. /System).

Whenever I've copied ~/Library/Safari/Bookmarks.plist to a different system the Bookmarks Bar is always preserved.

CALL ME YO DADDY  Yes but when you restore it, are your bookmarks automatically placed back in your bookmarks bar or a separate folder?

SJK  The Bookmarks Bar is identical on whichever system I copy ~/Library/Safari/Bookmarks.plist to. It shows up both under the toolbar and as a Bookmarks Bar collection, as expected. Ever since Safari's existed I've been copying my designated master Bookmarks.plist file to different systems and it's always worked that way. I wouldn't still be doing it if it behaved differently.

SJK  The developer stated a purpose for it and people with little technical savvy might appreciate it.

Surely it could be smaller, and not have separate English and Netherlands versions.

I'd prefer to use rooSwitch (Lite), a more generalized app that can "backup/restore" Safari and other apps with different profiles and is only a 1.7MB download.
