DESCRIPTION
Trash Compactor is a System Preference for Mac OS X 10.4 or later that allows you to automatically compact and securely delete your Trash. With Trash Compactor you configure a System Preference and then use your Trash normally, the automatic compaction and secure deletion happens in the background using the intervals that you set.

With Trash Compactor it is also possible, at any time, to manually: compact your Trash; Extract compacted Trash items; quickly Delete compacted Trash items that are not private; or securely delete compacted Trash items that are private.

Trash Compactor provides 3 levels of secure delete so you can choose how secure you want your Trash to be.

Automatic features

  • Enable manual or automatic Trash compacting
  • Configure the time interval at which Trash Compactor looks for new Trash to compact
  • Enable or disable the automatic deletion of old compacted Trash
  • Configure the time interval after which Trash Compactor will delete old compacted Trash
  • Configure the compacted archive format as .zip for maximum compatibility or .7z for maximum compression
  • Enable or disable Secure Delete
  • Choose the secure delete method

Manual features

  • Compact Trash at any time
  • Extract compacted trash items at any time
  • Quickly delete trash items that are not private at any time
  • Securely delete trash items that are private at any time

With Trash Compactor you never need to look at your Trash again.

WHAT'S NEW
Version 1.0.2: Fixes a problem where a filename like %@.txt would cause NSLog to crash. The % and @ characters are now removed from the file name prior to writing a log message to the console.

FOULGER  Good idea, especially the idea of being able to securely delete ones files.

I rarely comment on Shareware pricing but US$24.95 for this simple prefpane is patently not going to sell many copies.

Surely this is a $5.00 shareware item.

BURNINGTHUMB  Typically such utilities (for example compost which does not compress trash) are in the $20 range. If price is an issue just contact us and we will do whatever we can to make the software affordable for you.
