DESCRIPTION
PolipoStatusBar encapsulates the lightweight, caching web proxy polipo into a convenient menubar item. Polipo is already contained in the application bundle for your convenience.

Notable features include:
  • Small footprint (download: ~350KB, installed ~900KB)
  • Access to a significant number of polipo's configuration options through a GUI
  • Ad-filter, can be activated if desired, in which case polipo will use an internal list of hosts to block ads.
The GUI does not provide all possible configuration options of polipo. If you think I left one out you really need, send me an email and I will see what I can do.

After installing and running the software, make sure to change the network preferences to use polipo for accessing the internet.

WHAT'S NEW
Version 0.8.3:
  • When ad-zapping is enabled the replacement image is now loaded locally instead from an external server.
REQUIREMENTS
Mac OS X 10.4 or later.

MACMEND  Simple and to the point, this seems to perform better than squidman, its easy to install and set up.

Its only downside is I sometimes have to install squidman on an osx server and this does not seem to run on osx server (well I cant get ti to start)

I still give it 5 stars

TOMIS  Does exactly what I want. Wraps up a caching proxy in a nice GUI. I appreciate the compactness of using a menubar extra.

Only problem is that restarting Polipo causes it to forget the settings I changed via the web configuration interface. This seams to be a problem with Polipo, not with this app.

Would be nice if there was a GUI setting to daemonize Polipo and run it at system startup instead of user login. But this is a minor issue and one that I know I could solve by installing Polipo via another means.

Overall 4/5
