BS0D As much as I like the concept and enjoy a good, simple app, there are quite a few things that bother me a lot about this one. First, there is no icon. Any reason for that ? Secondly, on first opening, you get dutch language, not English -- this should be a standard. To have it in English, I had to go through the ressources and delete all languages but English. Thirdly, this will download ads from dailymotion, not the actual videos. It's not bad, it works fine for youtube, but there is quite a lot of work to do for other streaming websites... MISHA Under Mac OS X 10.6.2 (U.S. English) I get both an icon (the same one shown on MU) and the default language is English for me. It sounds like you might want to run some utilities on your Mac -- or just try redownloading. Something is clearly a bit off at your end (assuming you are running the same OS/language as me). BS0D Thanks for your concern, Misha. I'm running the same OS as you (10.6.2), all up-to-date, with French as my default language. I did redownload it (twice), ran OnyX to fix permissions and everything, but the problem's still the same here. (Version 6.0)

Please send feature requests and question to jorisvervuurt@planet.nl so I can take a look at them. Regarding the zero-size file problem: today it happened once to me too. It appears to be a problem at YouTube's end: drag the zero-size file onto TextEdit and you will see: Http/1.1 Service Unavailable Reloading the page and clicking the Download button again should make it work again. Also I am now working on a new preference option called "If available, download YouTube videos at highest quality (.mp4 file)". It will download the video at a much higher quality than you get now when clicking the Download button. Also, 1080p YouTube HD videos can be downloaded immediately as .mp4 files and the zero-size file problem should no longer occur. (Version 5.9)

GARY JAMES Thank you for replying. What about my feature request? (Version 5.9)

JORIS VERVUURT I will take a look at it, but I can't promise anything. For now, you may want to take a look at iVideoConverter. (Version 5.9)

YLIANN Because I needed to download a tutorial video I used this tool. Never got any experience with such tools but this seems to be a popular tool. Although the interface is very cool and easy to use it didn't worked for me. It always produced a non working file. After some searching and twiddling I found out it creates a corrupted file with a size: Zero ????? (Version 5.9)

After reading the previous review I gave it another try. After some cumbersome tries it indeed results in a workable file. But it isn't workable for me. If I have to download a lengthy movie a couple of time to hit the jackpot it is not worth it. With MacTubes no problems. (Version 5.9)

JORIS VERVUURT YLIANN and PETER_EARTHMAN, I am unable to reproduce the problem you have over here. Can you please contact me at jorisvervuurt@planet.nl as MacUpdate is not really the place to post these kind of messages. If you send me an e-mail with your problem, it is much easier for me to help you. Thank you. Also, can you please send me the URL(s) of the video(s) you tried to download? Maybe I am able to reproduce the problem then, and fix the problem. Hope to hear from you soon via e-mail. (Version 5.9)

YLIANN It happens with every YouTube video. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesnt. Running on PPC OSX10.5 (Version 5.9)

PETER_EARTHMAN Correction to my reply below: the about window can indeed be closed with CMD+W but all other windows still doesnt. - Why does the main window refreshes when you close the preference window? - Why does the main window refreshes twice when I press the refresh button? - Why does iTubeX quits downloading at a random rate? This behavior wasn't there with previous version. Happens 2 out of 10 tries. When it happens I get a 0 size file. (Version 5.9)

I am unable to reproduce the downloading problem you have over here. Also, I would like to ask you to not post questions in the review section, that's why there is a Contact e-mailaddress on my website. So, can you please contact me at jorisvervuurt@planet.nl as MacUpdate really is not the place to have a discussion about something. If you send me an e-mail with the URL(s) of the video(s) you tried to download, it is much easier for me to help you. Thank you. Maybe I am able to reproduce the problem then and fix the problem. Hope to hear from you soon via e-mail. Joris Vervuurt (16 years old) (Version 5.9)

You now no longer need to press the Refresh button twice and iTubeX Ultimate now does have a "true" OS X interface (correct Preferences window, About window, and a shortcut to close windows). However, I have to say that I do not think that PETER_EARTHMAN really tried out all the features that iTubeX Ultimate has, that iTube Grabber hasn't. Note that iTube Grabber DOES NOT have a shortcut to close windows, even though PETER_EARTHMAN says it does... And to be honest, I think he has some kind of relationship with the developer of iTube Grabber. Anyway, below are features that iTubeX Ultimate does have, that iTube Grabber doesn't: - Watch YouTube videos in QuickTime at the highest available quality, right from within iTubeX Ultimate - When watching a YouTube video at the highest available quality, clicking the Download button immediately downloads the video at the highest quality (as a .mp4 file, even 1080p YouTube HD videos!) - Conserve Bandwidth Mode - Add the source of a video to the file as a Spotlight comment - Save complete websites as images, PDF files or EPS files - Directly print a whole website PETER_EARTHMAN also still hasn't contacted me, so I still don't know what he means with "some more tiny bity annoyances"... PETER_EARTHMAN First things first. I do not have any relationship with any developer whatsoever. However, to reply to some things you claim: - Conserve bandwidth. iTB also has this feature and enabled by default if I remember correctly. Check the preferences. - iTB has true short cuts for closing windows. CMD+W closes all windows like it should. However, CMD+W does not close the main window. But this is normal behavior for OSX applications. You seem to claim the latest version has a true OS X interface. But not the version I tested. - The navigation on top is strange. It doesn't react like it should. No focus ring, typing a url is awkward because the cursor disappears. The back and forward buttons still do not behave correctly. They keep highlighted all the time. - The about window and history sheet cannot be closed with CMD+W (standard OSX stuff really). Although you claim it does. - The preference window has a toolbar hide button. Why? Not according OSX guidelines. - Updating from 5.8 cannot be done automatically. You are guided to the macupdate webpage. Why? Anyway, I still think both programs are very good. The iTB streaming filter information windows are a blessing and in my opinion iTB still has a slight edge and is free too. Yes I did not contact you, nor did I contact the developer of iTB. I do not feel this is necessary seeing me review was very well biased. (Version 5.9)

PETER_EARTHMAN Duo test with iTube Grabber and iTubeX Did several tests with both utilities and this is what I came up with: * Both capture most stream videos with no problems from the leading video sites. * Both can convert the downloaded flv videos to several codecs. However, iTube Grabber can do this automatically and without the need to install 3th-party packs. iTubeX needs the Perian pack to do this. Not a big deal but some people do not like to install extra stuff. Worth mentioning. * Both have a very good integrated browser detecting a full acid test. * I like the iTube Grabber interface more then the dull Safari like iTubeX. It goes without saying this is a personal preference. * iTube Grabber has a neat stream history. Incredibly handy to catch hidden streams on some pages. This said, multi streams on one page is not very common but if it is there you can make the best of it. iTubeX does not feature this. * iTubeX does not have a visible indication if there is a stream found. iTube Grabber tells the user this by a red grab button. * iTube Grabber lacks a browse history. * iTube Grabber has a "true" OS X interface. iTubeX has some issues (no correct Safari button behavior, no correct preference window, no correct about window, refreshing does not work correct - you have to press it twice, there is no shortcut to close windows and some more tiny bity annoyances) * iTubeX has multi language support. iTube Grabber not. Both utilities do what they advertise namely grabbing videos and they both do a very good job. iTube Grabber has a advantage of doing some operations automatically such as converting, a stream history and having a "true" OS X interface. This gives iTube Grabber a small overall advantage for me. iTube Grabber is still in beta so I guess we can expect some more improvements. Therefore it is fair to rate iTube Grabber one star more then iTubeX. (Version 5.6)

JORIS VERVUURT Thank you very much for your valuable review! This way, I know what I can improve to make iTubeX Ultimate even better. Just a quick note: the fact that you need to press the refresh button twice is odd. It's even more odd because you have to double-click it only when you're on YouTube. I will definitely take a look at it. Also, I will try to give iTubeX Ultimate a "true" OS X interface. Could you please contact me at jorisvervuurt@planet.nl and tell me what you exactly mean with "no correct Safari button behavior" and "some more tiny bity annoyances"? The fact that there is no shortcut to close windows is because there is only one window. Anyway, thanks again for your valuable review. (Version 5.6)

GLEMENTE I downloaded ITubeX Ultimate 5.5 and it was fabulous. I had tried many products and was so disappointed. This product works fabulously and the support was fantastic by the team at ITubeX Ultimate. I encourage folks to try this get the results they're looking for.
