ENKAYTEE  I like where this app is going, but I've noticed a couple of small issues:

1. Not a big deal, but the main options in the preference dialog are in German(? - sorry - I'm not great with languages!)

2. When a 'flash' file is downloaded it is named xxx.mp4.flv - even though in the 'download' dialog the name is just xxx.mp4.

If I delete the flv extension, it still seems to be a 'standard' mp4 file.

Thanks

PETER_EARTHMAN  Duo test with iTube Grabber and iTubeX

Did several tests with both utilities and this is what I came up with:

* Both capture most stream videos with no problems from the leading video sites.

* Both can convert the downloaded flv videos to several codecs. However, iTube Grabber can do this automatically and without the need to install 3th-party packs. iTubeX needs the Perian pack to do this. Not a big deal but some people do not like to install extra stuff. Worth mentioning.

* Both have a very good integrated browser detecting a full acid test.

* I like the iTube Grabber interface more then the dull Safari like iTubeX. It goes without saying this is a personal preference.

* iTube Grabber has a neat stream history. Incredibly handy to catch hidden streams on some pages. This said, multi streams on one page is not very common but if it is there you can make the best of it. iTubeX does not feature this.

* iTubeX does not have a visible indication if there is a stream found. iTube Grabber tells the user this by a red grab button.

* iTube Grabber lacks a browse history.

* iTube Grabber has a "true" OS X interface. iTubeX has some issues (no correct Safari button behavior, no correct preference window, no correct about window, refreshing does not work correct - you have to press it twice, there is no shortcut to close windows and some more tiny bity annoyances)

* iTubeX has multi language support. iTube Grabber not.

My verdict:

Both utilities do what they advertise namely grabbing videos and they both do a very good job.

iTube Grabber has a advantage of doing some operations automatically such as converting, a stream history and having a "true" OS X interface.

This gives iTube Grabber a small overall advantage for me.

iTube Grabber is still in beta so I guess we can expect some more improvements.

Therefore it is fair to rate iTube Grabber one star more then iTubeX.

JORIS VERVUURT  Thank you very much for your valuable review!

This way, I know what I can improve to make iTubeX Ultimate even better.

Just a quick note: the fact that you need to press the refresh button twice is odd.

It's even more odd because you have to double-click it only when you're on YouTube.

I will definitely take a look at it. Also, I will try to give iTubeX Ultimate a "true" OS X interface.

Could you please contact me at jorisvervuurt@planet.nl and tell me what you exactly mean with "no correct Safari button behavior" and "some more tiny bity annoyances"?

The fact that there is no shortcut to close windows is because there is only one window.

Anyway, thanks again for your valuable review.

GLEMENTE  I downloaded ITubeX Ultimate 5.5 and it was fabulous. I had tried many products and was so disappointed. This product works fabulously and the support was fantastic by the team at ITubeX Ultimate.

I encourage folks to try this get the results they're looking for.

KBALLARD54  I downloaded iTubeX several versions ago and I loved it immediately! It's simple and easy to use. It just works!! Before iTubeX, I tried several other shareware and freeware programs but it seemed none of them worked consistently. After downloading iTubeX my search was over.

The latest version (v5.5) is incredible! The on-going customer support and inclusion of customer feature requests is continual. As YouTube and others update their websites iTubeX adapts to their changes.

For only $7.50, this program is a bargain! My advice to anyone looking for a clean method of downloading ANY embedded video... look no further than iTubeX!!

BLABLABLA@DODGIT.COM  I wanted something that would download music videos from mtvmusic.com. Alas, this only downloads the commercial that appears *before* the music video starts. I thought about writing the developer and asking to have this fixed. However, his site states, "I will not purposefully allow iTubeX Ultimate to download copyrighted videos, .swf and .mp3 files."

I respect his/her moral compass, but I'll not be purchasing this app. :-(

DRDUL  Joris (the developer) has been very responsive, and has incorporated a few of my suggestions into version 5.5, including the ability to save PNG images and the gear button to save my mouse the long trip to the menu bar. iTubeX is a great video downloader, and is also a good browser. The ability to easily exchange URLs with Safari (another feature that is accessible through the gear button) helps make it even easier to use. An excellent app!

DRDUL  I just purchased iTubeX Ultimate, and was pleased to discover that it can save web pages as JPG images. This was an unexpected bonus, as I have been looking for a good app to save web pages (I used to use Web Snapper as a Safari plug-in, but can't with 64-bit Safari in OS X 10.6). Every other web-page-saving app I tried requires that I drag a URL into it, which doesn't work for web pages that display financial information or UPS tracking results, for example. Because iTubeX is a browser, I can navigate to a web page to display the information I want, and then grab a shot of the complete page as a JPG. I've asked the dev if he could add support for saving pages as PNG images, so hopefully that feature will be added.

BLABLABLA@DODGIT.COM  If grabbing screenshots of web pages is what you're looking for, try the FREE extension for Firefox called Screengrab.

http://www.screengrab.org/

"Basically Screengrab! letÂ’s you take what you want from a web-page: the entire scrollable document, just the visible bit, or a draggable selection. Screengrab will even save just the contents of an individual frame."

DR. GIRLFRIEND  Previously, I used a Greasemonkey script on Firefox to download from YouTube, but if you're not careful, Greasemonkey scripts can become unwieldy and lead to memory leaks. Since, to me, troubleshooting memory leaks on Firefox holds about as much appeal as watching reality television, I prefer to use iTubeX on Safari for YouTube downloads and keep my Firefox addons as light as possible.

This app is worth the money, especially since you can now also download mp3s. Solid 5 stars.
