DESCRIPTION
Leech gives you complete control over your downloads and full browser integration. You can queue, pause and resume downloads, download from password-protected servers and store your passwords in your system-wide, secure keychain. And you won't have to worry about downloads that were disrupted by a crashing browser ever again.
WHAT'S NEW
Version 1.1.4:
- [new] you can now have the main download window's size adjust to the number of downloads it's currently displaying automatically (cf. "Feedback" preferences)
- [fixed] a bug that kept downloads from starting as queued after other downloads were canceled
- [fixed] a bug in Leech's "Sleep When Done" functionality (cf. "Queue" menu)
- available languages: English, French, German
Version 1.1.3:
- [fixed] a bug that kept Firefox/Leech integration from working correctly for certain download folder locations
- [fixed] a bug that led to stray temporary *.part files being left behind after handing off Camino downloads to Leech automatically
- [improved] similar Growl messages are now coalesced in one overlay window to save screen real estate

LEO SPILL No updates in ten months ? No fixes for sites - the app balks at ? Very disappointing developer interest in this project for a fee based application. (Version 1.1.4)

SILENT BOB IE I agree. Bought this app just before 1.1.4. It was being updated quite frequently before this and thought that trend would continue. I am very dissapointed. The developer site hasn't been upgraded and the forums seem to have been close a couple of months ago. At least one of the developers seems to have moved off to different projects with a different developer. I for one will certainly not be purchasing from this developer again. (Version 1.1.4)

ROBOTANK Leech is nice and lightweight and has a lovely, minimal interface. Though it's not as versatile as SpeedDownload, I tend to prefer it for the simple reason that it works properly with OmniWeb. SpeedDownload integration with OmniWeb has caused problems as far back as I can remember, while Leech is fully compatible. Also, Leech properly handles certain files from authenticated web sites (namely, my university's Blackboard site) that SD had problems with. On the other hand, SD does seem to generally achieve better speeds than Leech, so I still use it manually to download large files. IMO, both apps offer substantial advantages over any browser's built-in download window. (Version 1.1.4)

BENR I wish it could replace Speed Download, but so far it just can't. My specific irritation is the lack of a bandwidth throttle. SD lets me keep browsing while downloading by reducing its download speed, Leech just sucks it all up! (Version 1.1.4)

TIAGO I would love to say that it "just works", but the truth is that when it works it offers no advantages to Safari's built-in downloader... I honestly cannot remember if Leech was EVER able to successfully resume a paused download... Most (all?) of the time I have to browse to Leech's history and download again an in several times that doesn't work either, so I have to go to the webpages again (which were already closed, obviously) to get the files... If your connection drops mid-download, be ready to loose everything you had already downloaded... I love Leech's interface (LOVE IT!), but owning both Leech and SpeedDownload I have to say that SpeedDownload is way faster, it successfully pauses/resumes downloads, it successfully re-downloads, has a better history browse... etc... But I hate its interface and could never get used to it... I'll try the lite version, but I already know that its interface is no match for Leech's... Let's see... (Version 1.1.4)

BENR I've now found that by hiding the toolbar and the sidebar, switching into "simple" mode, showing only the Name, Status, Est.Time, Speed and Size columns and doing all my file management with right/ctrl-clicks on the downloads window, Speed Download does for me what I wish Leech would. JAMSOFT Leech is a great little app – It's lightweight, fast, stable, and most importantly it just works. I've repeatedly tried other download managers in the past (Speed download, iGetter, Download Wizard, etc.) and I always found myself uninstalling them because their 'cons' far outweighed any 'pros'. They were everything I didn't want in a download manager: overly complex, clunky, intrusive, required excess system resources, and they were unstable to the point that it even caused other applications to crash. - Automatically integrates with Safari/Firefox's cookies, authenticated sessions, and stored passwords. In other words, downloading files from a website that you're a member of (i.e. a premium RapidShare account) automatically works without you having to mess around with setting up or configuring any tedious rules. - Plenty of user controllable features & settings (i.e. automatically resize download window, private downloading, user definable rules, etc.) - Doesn't seem to properly work on a couple sites. — Could use a few more features. – It'd be nice if Leech would preserve the "Where from:" URL like Safari does when you download a file. (You can view it in the Finder's "Get Info" window under the "More Info:" tab.) – Leech (or any download manager for that matter) can always be optimized even further. It'd be great if Leech honed in on maximizing your download speed. If you download files on a regular basis (whether it's apps, music, movies, or anything else) I highly recommend you give Leech a try! (Version 1.1.4)

LEO SPILL I purchased Leech and while not perfect does bridge a gap between bloated software and Apples own inept download window. I can download fine using Rapidshare and other larger sites but Depositfiles, easy-share,filefactory and similar smaller download sites - Leach balks at their downloads. My only request would be for a proper resuming of downloads - It's frustrating to when a download has to re-download completely from 0% after a stall or to pause it. Also maybe that it's window could shrink up and down from the menu bar - so it saves real estate. Or shrink into a mini-window when not in use. But would recommend Leech, if you like a little more control over your downloads - and who doesn't ? (Version 1.1.4)
