DESCRIPTION
ooVoo is one of the most advanced and feature rich video communication programs available to Mac users and allows people to connect with both Mac and PC users anywhere in the world for free.

Mac users will now be able to connect face-to-face with up to six people at once regardless of whether they are Mac or PC users. ooVoo Mac’s easy-to-use features include the ability to send and receive video messages, exchange files and text chat messages as well as import contacts from other programs.

Unlike instant messaging (IM) and voice over internet protocol (VoIP) solutions that have incorporated video as an add-on feature, ooVoo was developed with video at its core delivering a richer communication experience with high quality video and reduced video delay, clear audio and better lip synchronization. ooVoo’s high quality multi-party video chat, with a resolution of 352 x 288 at up to 15 frames per second, can be experienced with a standard broadband internet connection and requires only 128 Kbps (up and down) of throughput, less than half required by competitors for a one to one video chat.

CONVERGENCESITE  Looked very promising at the beginning especially the cross platform aspect.

No longer working as of Leopard 10.5.6.

Very poor support and constructive feedback is not well received.

KEDOS  The only value in this is that it offers cross-platform multi video chat, which is still good enough for me to keep it on my computer. That being said, I have not been able to open this application once. I'm on an intel MacBook with 2gb of ram and running Leopard. I've got a friend who's on a MacBook Pro and it works for her, but I'm not sure why it doesn't work on here. Any time I try to open it, it quits unexpectedly before I can even see the interface. So, for now, I have to say that this is a piece of crap. Hopefully the kinks will be worked out in the future.

KEDOS  OK, I figured out that the problem was with a CamCamX plugin that I had. Apparently all mac users with that plugin have the same problem, so I just deleted it. Oovoo seems to be working now. The interface is pretty ugly and very unmac-like, but at least it's working.

GLOBETROTTERDK  Common guys, where is the universal binary? There are a lot of PPC users out there still.

FRICCIO  I think its a promising application. I tried a multiperson conference and worked very well, not as good as ichat, but very good for crossplatform multiperson videochat. At least for me it works with my isight.
