DESCRIPTION
Syncman synchronizes your Mac's built-in Address Book with your Gmail Contacts with a minimum of fuss, hassle and frustration. Syncman does one thing and does it well.
Features:
- Three different synchronization strategies: Bi-directional sync between Address Book and Gmail, One-way synchronization from Address Book to Gmail, One-way synchronization from Gmail to Address Book.
- Support for most standard contact fields: Name, Company, Title, Notes, Email Addresses, Phone Numbers, IM Accounts (AIM, Jabber, MSN, ICQ & Yahoo)
- Scheduled synchronization with configurable 'bother level'.
- Can optionally run in the menubar as a background application (especially handy when using scheduled synchronization)
- Works with both Gmail and Google Apps.
- Shows you all proposed changes before it makes them.
- Optionally synchronize Gmail's "Suggested Contacts".
WHAT'S NEW
Version 1.2.1:
Fixed a major bug with Syncman 1.2. When adding contacts to your Gmail
account, Syncman would not add these contacts to the My Contacts group.
This could cause strange problems, especially if you opted not to synchronize
Suggested Contacts.
Now Syncman will add any new contacts in Address Book to the My Contacts group in
Gmail. After updating, if Syncman still wants to delete a bunch of contacts from Address Book,
the easiest solution is to empty the cache Syncman > Preferences > Advanced > Empty Cache
and sync again. The downside to the 'easy' solution is that it leaves a bunch of duplicate contacts in your
Suggested Contacts. The alternative solution, which doesn't do this, is to manually
move those contacts into My Contacts in Gmail.
I sincerely apologize for this lapse in quality control. If you've been bitten by this bug
and need any assistance in getting your contact lists back in order, please don't hesitate to
contact us. And many thanks to Ross on the Syncman group for noticing and helping
to track down this bug.
Version 1.2:
- Option to either synchronize or ignore Google's ?Suggested Contacts?.
- more sync status information is now available in the menubar if you run Syncman in the menubar.
REQUIREMENTS
Mac OS X 10.5 or later.

PETIEG Been looking for this functionality natively from google... Guess not yet. This product just lost some information I had placed in my address book -- it didn't sync to the web, and it is now lost in AB ... also, company only names keep coming up as changed... i have 11 that come up changed all the time and nothing has been done to them... what gives? DEZITALL Nice app. This app is a wonderful alternative to Apples built in sync with Google, a free feature that has been available since OS 10.5.3. Syncman has good interface and it works well and is very stable. Well thought out and elegant design. Is it necessary? Definitely for those not up to 10.5.3 or higher or for some who find Apple sync challenging but for me Address Book already has automatic syncing built in for Google, Yahoo and Exchange servers not just MobileMe. Just go to preferences, select the General tab and turn on your desired syncing. Now the next time you sync, you're done. (Version 1.2.1)

TONY MCDONOUGH Actually it only is available either through 1) the use of an iPhone or iPod Touch or 2) a hack as documented on Lifehacker.com that seems to have mixed success. (Version 1.2.1)

LARRYMCJ Every so often an application comes along that actually changes your life...or at least makes your life easier and you wonder how you ever lived without it. SyncMan is one of those rare one-trick ponies that does exactly what it's created to do...perfectly! As do many, I rely heavily on Gmail but I hate how it automatically adds contacts for every sent email, like replying to a support message, etc. No one wants all that stuff in their contacts...we generally want the same contacts in Gmail that are in our desktop Address Books. SyncMan does this...and does it either in a completely automatic mode at any schedule you want, or you can monitor various things and manually confirm them (you will be in the auto mode very soon when you see how accurate SyncMan is). My sincere thanks to the folks at Wateree Software, who have developed this gem and who are kind enough to even answer emails, should you need to talk to them. (Version 1.1)

BOGEN For those who don't have an iPhone or iPod Touch, Syncman seems to be a more than viable alternative to Apple's built-in synchronization. It just works (which IMHO is all one can ask for). It even seems to be better at coping with company-type contacts. The ability to sync just a certain Address Book group or just e-mail contacs would be nice, though. My Apple Address Book contains quite a number of contacts without e-mail addresses and I don't really need those in Gmail … (Version 1.1)

1) 10.5.3 only offers Google Address Book syncs if you have an iPod. 2) This offers scheduled syncs 3) Not everyone is running 10.5.3 (Version 1.1)
