CORPSECORPS I've criticized reviewers for giving a low score to an app just because it's been done before, as if there's only one or two good ways to accomplish something but come on, Mahjong as a solitaire puzzle has been done dozens of way, including with a plot. I don't quite understand the Chinese influence in the icon since the music, tiles, and plot are decidedly UN-Chinese. Having gotten those minor gripes out of my system, let me say the graphics and sound are of exceptional quality, right down to the Fire Maple logo screen (cool name btw). This game has such a relaxing atmosphere it should not be played by the sleepy. I had minor complaints with the UI. The mouse moved a bit faster than i like, so i would have to adjust it in prefs or a mouse driver to feel comfortable. The subtlety of picking tiles - a slight coloration and no sound effect - was a slightly annoying, too. While the tiles are gorgeous and visually have a nice balance between similarity and difference there's only the one style. Game play progresses very nicely due (i assume) to the hand made levels. I don't know if that extends to tile placement, or whether that's random, but the beginning puzzles were exceptionally easy. Very nicely done, overall, but i would have been VASTLY more impressed, were this level of attention to detail applied to an application that actually PLAYED Mahjong, as those are scarce. If you like this game, you should really try Runes of Avalon 2 as well. The atmosphere, game play, advancement screen, and quality were so similar, i at first thought they must be released by the same people. |
