GUNNI  I have poked around with various VNC applications for several years in an effort to help relatives and friends with their Mac problems.

I have tried Chicken of the VNC, Share My Desktop, LogMeIn, JollyFast, VNC Dimension, and Vine.

NONE of them were as fast (in fact most were PAINFULLY slow) and as simple to use as TeamViewer. Don't waste you time trying any of these above-mentioned apps; download TeamViewer and your golden.

FRUITTY  I urgently needed to remote control an other mac from 2 different places. All I wanted was something easy to use and most of all: free. I googled free remote control and there it was. It's so easy to use. And it worked perfectly fine on both sides. There are enough utilities in the free version for you to helpout someone who is not o. The same network. Really, it's the best to me. Thanks a lot!

KHANNIBAL  Well, I used the version 3 for a while, but the 4 keeps crashing at launch... Deleted the preferences, but it does not fix the problem.

Anybody with the same problem ?

Anyway, Teamviewer is in deed the best in its category ! :)

DREAMER_UK  Ok so I'm a windows admin during the day and family IT during the night.

And While being a windows admin my work machine is a 17" mbp.

I have used most of the remote control software out there at one stage or another.

Teamviewer was mentioned and I gave it a try. The first use I had for it was a real issue for me.

A user without admin rights had a currupt driver issue for both his ethernet card and his wifi. He was over 100 miles away it was 10:30pm and the only way I could get to his machine was via a bluetooth connection on his mobile phone (and gprs).

Teamviewer not only gave me fast remote control but continued to do so while i did a 50Mb download of ethernet drivers (thanks broadcom!)

I paid for the Business license the next day.

I have now been using over a year and have since upgraded to the Premium license and completely stopped using dameware via vmware.

Oh and there is a flash based control option so you don't even need to install anything to control a windows or osx machine.

BOB_TM  Extremely fast remote control app and multiplatform client as well as server. All is set for a killer app, but there are two drawbacks, both big ones:

- The client uses 100% CPU at all times (to be precise, it will take all capacity left on one of the cores on my Leopard laptop). This makes it useless for use with my MacBook, which becomes very hot and drains the battery fast. The server also uses a vast amount of CPU.

- The client does not let you scale to full screen, so either you must have matching resolution or see the remote screen in a small Window.

DORKYPANTS  Is this a peer-to-peer connection or does each client go through servers operated by TeamViewer's vendor? It's not apparent from either the description here at MacUpdate or at the developer's website.

MIKAELF  Both Teamviewer and Logmein.com's remote control tools uses their respective servers to establish the connection. The actual remote control is peer 2 peer.
