HAGAR06  Nice update: converting with QuickTime X is much faster now and it doesn't block the videodrive window.

KOSOVAR1  This hateful POS software hasn't converted a single movie for me in many months. Even the latest version, which promises bug fixes, workarounds and QuickTime Player X compatibility for the first time, doesn't work. Believe me, don't waste your money on this.

AROONA SOFTWARE  We always publish release notes on our website and in the inline VideoDrive update mechanism. We have never released any update without accompanying notes. We are not responsible for the content of MacUpdate. MacUpdate automatically detects when we release a new version and updates its site. We have noted that on a regular basis the release notes are not included automatically. If we notice this, we manually update the MacUpdate listing. Please view the VideoDrive website (www.aroona.net) for any official news on our software. Additionally, if you require technical assistance or have further questions, feel free to contact Aroona Customer Support.

KOSOVAR1  Version 1.12.1: Release notes were unavailable when this listing was updated."

Same as the last time.

Same as the last time.

Same as the last time.

Did I mention that VideoDrive hasn't converted a single movie for me since the past several months, and needless to say, it hasn't sent a single movie to iTunes or to my AppleTV?

TUFOR  I was a bit skeptical about this app, as it promises a lot. But it did deliver! I wanted to put my whole video collection (500+ shows) in iTunes on Macosx 10.6.2. So I fired up VideoDrive, threw all videos on it and let it do its thing.

After finishing analyzing the files and folders, it asked if it got the titles right. They were (granted, I only watch big shows), but still I was impressed as some files had junk in their names. Also, Videodrive is smart enough to only ask once for each TVshow season.

Then videodrive continued overnight. It's quite slow, but it needed to copy the files over to my external disk. I used the function to make the videos compatible with ATV without converting. The next morning, all my vids were in iTunes! Nicely ordered, with explanations and covers. Very impressive.

Next, the big test: I started browsing on my appletv, all shows were there and they played fine! It turns out only 6 videos were not imported. 3 of them seemed corrupt. I tried the other 3 again and then it worked too. So no idea why that failed the first time.

PROS: lots of features (haven't tried them all yet), very good for batch processing a lot of videos, identified all my videos

CONS: a bit slow, but understandable as videos are large files. Once it starts, it's best to leave it overnight if you have a lot of vids like I have

KOSOVAR1  To Aroona, you're not getting off the hook that easily by claiming to post your notes. Yes, the release notes get posted slightly earlier now (probably due to users' complaints), but when the latest several versions of the VideoDrive software were released, the notes were not available. (If I'm wrong, please say so.) Anyway, this latest three releases of your software that I paid for isn't working for me on Snow Leopard. These are the error message I keep getting when I try to convert even short simple files, like a .mov file and one short .mp4 file:

Initalization of YouTube Bond theme song on Ei... failed: QuickTime Player 7 got an error: AppleEvent handler failed. (error: -2700)

Fatal error: Initalization of YouTube Bond theme song on Ei... failed: QuickTime Player 7 got an error: AppleEvent handler failed. (error: -2700)

Converting whole movies is an absolute no-go. Incidentally, I have both the paid version of QuickTime 7 and the Version of QuickTime that came with Snow Leopard 10.6.2 installed on my four-month old iMac.

KOSOVAR1  To Jeff H., chances are you won't know what will happen when you install VideoDrive because the bums who make it routinely refuse to include release notes. That's because the developer wants us to do their dirty work for them and this is really annoying. OK, if VideoDrive were free, I'd have no justification for complaining, but those of us who bought this program, we deserve better! By the way, since I updated to Snow Leopard, the last two or three updates absolutely refuse to convert a movie. I use VisualHub, a program that hasn't been developed in well over a year, to do my conversion. This is a testament to how crappy VideoDrive has become.

JEFF H.  Just got a brand new mini today running Snow Leopard and Video Drive won't work.

Keeps saying it needs to update Quicktime 7 and then quits.

Stinks...I really love this app.

Anyone have any ideas? Are there alternative apps for SL?

Thanks

JEFF H.  BTW my machine already has QT7.

after I get a prompt saying:

VideoDrive requires the QuickTime 7 framework.

Click OK to open our support page and download QT7 using Apple Software Update

I click ok and it launches a browser that goes to a 404 error.

WTF?

AROONA SOFTWARE  Previous versions of VideoDrive only looked in the Utilities subfolder for the presence of QuickTime 7 because this is the default location in Snow Leopard. The new version 1.12 has addressed this: if you have QuickTime 7 in the Application folder, VideoDrive will continue to work fine.

TOM08  Works great on my 64bit Snow Leopard installation. Online metadata did work anymore, but an update was released the same day. Nice customer support!.

My only complaint is the quality of the downloaded images: they are ok, but not the best.

KOSOVAR1  To the mental muppet in the room, I expressed annoyance with developers who release tiny, incremental updates to their software practically every week (or twice a week), listing one or two "improvements" like "rounder buttons and other superficial interface elements, without making any significant usability or stability improvements. My complaint about VideoDrive last week is that it simply STOPPED CONVERTING MOVIES and I would like the developer to make it work again--because I paid for it-- not just to announce new shiny buttons or color scheme refinement. Developers like this produce frequent meaningless update announcements just to get more free exposure for their product, but they often won't do the hard work necessary to make a good product that was worthy of what I paid for it. In contrast, I gave the example of the noble VisualHub, which hasn't been updated IN YEARS because the developer discontinued work on it for personal reasons (and who very nobly stopped accepting payment for it because he was no longer doing the work), but IT somehow manages to convert my movies for me, whereas VideoDive will not. In contrast, if VideDrive is supposedly improving their software constantly, why doesn't it work anymore?

I'm sorry that you seem incapable of understanding my point or is it perhaps that you have some other agenda to defend a company's business model and practices or software that you want to refute as being defective for some, just because (you say) it works fine for you.

HAGAR06  I happen to use VideoDrive frequently, so I know there have been a lot of updates in the past, and as far as I can remember they have always introduced new features and bug fixes. I have VideoDrive 1.3 still laying around, and just for you I just launched it on my powerbook, to check your claims. Well, you can't even compare it to 1.11. It's completely different with 20 times more features. So what you say is plain wrong.

KOSOVAR1  Sometimes I wonder if their are muppets around who work for software developers with a hidden agenda. I say so because their responses are so one-sided, they just can't be that unintelligent. (That would be a tribble, not a muppet!). What could be the benefit to defending mediocrity or obfuscation or just saying, "Hey, it works for me!" or "99.9% of users do such and such!" when that's clearly not he case. So, I'm tired of muppets and tribbles and for the rest of you, draw whatever conclusions you deem appropriate. I've just tried to be helpful to other users or I wouldn't have wasted time by contributing input.

HAGAR06  I just checked the other messages you are posting around here, and... boy, it's not pretty.

If you're really trying to give constructive input, try another routine. Instead of saying "it's not working. I have danced around my mac twice, and still it refuses to do what I want it to" you could try stating what exactly you are trying to do, what it supposed to do, but what happens instead, with what error message. Then it's useful for others, it's useful for developers, and it might be useful for yourself as other users might give you some pointers.

KOSOVAR1  Have your last word, Hagar. Something clear is not quite right about you. As for my comments, many have been positive when I have found good software and I often purchase same. So, have your last word and I won't be responding to you anymore.
