ROB.H  Some interesting functionality and features, but a couple of gotchas too.

1. File name extensions get stripped off in the designer view, and you line everything up accordingly. Once the .dmg is created the file extensions reappear and as I found, the filenames then overlap and look messy so care is needed in the design phase.

2. I dragged 12 files on to a new/blank .dmg and found that they were automatically arranged into a single-width vertical column that extended off beyond the bottom of the window. While possible to rearrange the files near the top, the other files went past the bottom of the visible window and with no scroll bars there was no way to get them back. Only option was to delete the project and start again. Tried this with/without 'snap to grid' being turned on.

Not quite there yet for me.

MULTIMAGO  I am amazed. The developer of this software sayd that the comments are false. They never asked before to MacUpdate to remove all comments. Why?

take a look: http://maczot.com/discuss/?p=891

so please MacUpdate staff, don't censure this message.

GANNET  The grid functionality is a neat idea. It got me thinking though. Two similar features would be really nice:

- Alignment guides (like in iWork) allowing you to easily align icons with each other or with the center of the window.

- Drop zones in the templates, allowing you to drop an icon into straight into the right position.

Also, the icon size should probably default to 128x128, seeing as all the templates are set up for icons that size.

GANNET  Small addition to that: Have an alias to the apps folder already included in the correct position on the templates.

Also, why does it use ADC compression? Zlib (UDZO) is the standard and is a bit better.

JOSH DYE  There is really no need for this, all you have to do is create a read/write image of your files first/ Then to get a backgroung- just add your image to the disk, select that picture in View Options & "/developer/tools/setfile -V PATHTOIMAGE" in the terminal. It is also easy to change the disk icon :-)

But if you want to pay to change the default file icon- be my guest

APFELZ  good app - no question…

- but the developers punish you to buy a new license in case of a hardware failure (if you had to buy a new Mac)

so good luck guys - I will trash the app now and search for another one…

what a shame!

MAC OS X 4EVER  I hate companies that pull that crap on their licensed users.

If I buy a new Mac, why should I have to re-buy all of my registered software?

Try Drop-DMG.

I have owned it for quite a while.

It's a good program.

I was just looking at this one to see what it did differently.

I will avoid it after seeing what they did to you.

SOURCEBITS  There is no truth to above claims. You can transfer your license from one mac to other at any point of time, there are just no restrictions to that.
