CORPSECORPS  How about making it set custom icons for Leopard Folders, such that they don't prevent the folder icon from being double-clicked to open it?

Apple seems to be in no hurry to fix either that or the disappearing 512x512 pixel mask bug.

MACSOLU  What? The "correct" way??? Am I to understand that a simple copy & paste of an icon via the Get Info window is somehow incorrect? Is there some documented Leopard bug where custom hard drive icons will fail to display in the sidebar and/or BootCamp? Mine work fine.

MACUPDATE ADMIN  The 'More Information' link on the MacUpdate product page for Set Icon points to the developer site. At that site it states:

"I created this application because of the emails that I get from people having problems applying my ‘My Book Icons’ to their external hard drives."

It is not difficult to investigate first.

DIGITAL.PARDOE  I have had problems with icons not showing up correctly in the Finder sidebar and in Boot Camp when copying and pasting icons, the problems are mainly to do with the scaling of the icons.

I did however create the program for people that are not sure of how to set custom icons for their hard drives.

Feel free to use copy and paste if it works well for you.

WOODEN BRAIN CONCEPTS  It looks slick. But I have to pipe in here that I was also thrown off by the statement "the correct way", which also made me wonder if just copying and pasting was not sufficient for Leopard. All I'm saying is that seems a bit misleading, unless you have some evidence that the method you're employing does something different or better -- rather than just offering a simple and attractive interface.

UMIJIN  You folks are hung up on the phrase 'correct way'? Sheesh! Get a grip. The app is FREE and it WORKS.

I also have had problems with the display of pasted icons in different views, as well as the retention of those icons. This app seems to solve those issues.

Furthermore, there are plenty of people that can't handle copying and pasting icons in the 'Info' window. So, the criticism of this free app are very misplaced. It's the 'correct way' for newbies AFAIC.

PETER DA SILVA  I think people are hung up on the fact that the description doesn't explain what the program's for. It really *is* confusing, because it implies that there's something wrong but doesn't explain what that something is.

DIGITAL.PARDOE  Apologies for any confusion caused. "Correctly set..." is taken out of context in the MacUpdate tag line (that I have no control over). Essentially what the application does is set the drive icon in a more robust and reliable way that has greater compatibility across the various areas of the operating system.

JMSUIJKERBUIJK  "there are plenty of people that can't handle copying and pasting icons in the 'Info' window"

Should they be allowed to operate a computer at all?!?

UMIJIN  Use this app to replace your HD icons with custom ones. It works well, is fast, and FREE.

And to top it off, the author has also made some free gorgeous HD icons you can use with this.

In fact, he made the app so that users of his icons would have an idiot proof way to install them.
