DESCRIPTION
Dapplegrey is a frontend for the Mac OS X DOSBox port written in REALbasic. With Dapplegrey you can easily set options the DOSBox gives to you without having to enter them manually using the Terminal or have to edit the DOSBox config file. This file will be written before Dapplegrey tells DOSbox to start.
WHAT'S NEW
Version 2.6.3:
  • Editing the Game Informations using the Game Info Window no longer causes the main games list to be mixed (title bar previously shows another game entry than the title marked in the games list): The currently selected game entry remains selected now, if you close the Game Info Window.
  • If you've attempted to delete a game entry, but you cancel it to keep the entry, the games list remains untouched. Previous versions switched to the first entry when deleting game entries has been canceled by the user (switching to the first entry after deleting game entries is still a valid value).
  • When the user cancel to add an DOS executable file in the "Add Game" dialog window, no longer the pre-defined path will be filled into the "Path to game exe file" text field, which probably made the "Add Game" dialog unserviceable.
REQUIREMENTS
  • Mac OS X 10.3 or later
  • DOSBox

NAOH  One thing that I like about Dapplegrey over Boxer, is that Dapplegrey allows me to easily tune the DOSBox session.

As yet, I've not found an easy way to do that with Boxer.

Boxer is an attractive and easy way of launching the games, but as different games make different requirements demands of the processor, graphic cards and audio hardware Dapplegrey gives me the customisability that I need.

KRIS BROWNE  The problem with Boxer is that it hasn't been updated in half a year, is still tied to the old and much less nice Dosbox .72. I like the interface of Boxer better, but Dapplegrey is updated like every other week.

ALUN BESTOR  (Not to hijack Dapplegrey's comments section, but...) Boxer is still in active development and as Foofoorabbit observed, recent betas now include DOSBox 0.73 - however, an official release is still some time away, and the betas lack niceties like localisation and rigorous testing. You can follow Boxer beta versions from the blog on the Boxer website.

FOOFOORABBIT  No other DOSBox front-end holds a candle to Boxer. Boxer is bar none the best. And while the efforts from other developers are valiant, at the end of the day, Boxer still has the right idea -- making the Finder the actual front-end.

I don't want to rain on the Dapplegrey developer's parade (afterall, I'm sure some people like the Dapplegrey launcher), but there's something a lot more sexy about letting users create their own game bundles complete with icon and documentation, launched from the Finder.

TRM96  I really love this app, and have been using it for a while. The one thing I have to say I would like to see you package it in a dmg rather than a zip as its easyer to deal with on my windows boxx (witch is where I sometimes download the newest verison from), Other than that love the app, wish you made a Windows/Linux version of the app! :)

ARVIDTP  the previous version worked fine, but in this version when i try to launch a game I get an error:

"Dapplegrey have to quit because of an NilObjectExceptionErr (Object not found). Please tell the following line to the author: Subprogram: 'app.WriteConfChr'"

GUILLAUMEK  Nice Dosbox GUI. The interface is a bit messy but it really gets the job done. Dapplegrey also has the simple merit of being in active development. Most of the other GUIs don't see a lot of updates these days.
