WHAT'S NEW
Version 3.8.1:
- New: Option in the Display Boxes Inspector (media box templates) to resize a page's media box to an outset from a secondary display box.
- Fixed: The workaround in version 3.8 for a bug introduced by Apple in Mac OS X 10.5.7 was inefficient and could exponentially increase the time it takes to open a document. This fix implements an efficient workaround so that opening even huge documents is snappy again.
- Fixed: PDFClerk Pro no longer offers to save encrypted documents when quitting.

CRAIGD This is a fantastic piece of software. The developer is polite and repsonsive. It works well for editing PDFs and the new bookmarking functions are great. (Version 3.5.1)

DREAMER I'm sorry, but I just have to react to what is to me an obviously unfair comment. It is quite possible the user who wrote "careful with this" experienced a hang, but I have not had problems saving PDFClerk documents. The rest of his claims about the software are nonsense though: PDFClerk offers several different PDF export options, and the option to save intermediate results in its own file format allows for much needed flexibility. It's a plus, not a minus. I'm never forced to use a particular format. I can pick and choose as the situation requires, it being equally easy to use either format. And, just like with the earlier commentators, I've been met with excellent customer support: fast and efficient. I once was working on a pdf using PDFClerk and needed some functionality that was not there and contacted the developer. Within a couple of days he had added it. The developer is obviously eager to help. Make sure to read the developer's reply to the previous commentator's claims, and you'll see that even his claim of flatly being denied a refund is not true. Based on my previous experiences with this developer, I have no doubts his comments reflect what actually happened. There are not many PDF editors around that offer great functionality at a great price, but this is certainly one of them, and I have a hard time imagining anyone being unfairly treated by this developer. PDFClerk has saved me a lot of time in many occasions and I feel fortunate being able to use this product that continues to grow from strength to strength with such an engaged and supportive developper behind it. NETUSER7 Careful with this software I tried to fill a simple form with this (add 5 pieces of text) - then it didn't want to save the document and hung in an error. When looking through the manual it is clear that this isn't a PDF editor, but some kind of a tool that writes "it's own format". Refunds from this company even when software doesn't work are a no no (probably in violation of US consumer law). If you have work to do, and no desire to save files in non-pdf formats, or to troubleshoot broken software, then look elsewhere. (Version 3.4.3)

SINTRAWORKS >>"I tried to fill a simple form with this (add 5 pieces of text) - then it didn't want to save the document and hung in an error." From the customer's initial email to us, it became clear that he meant to save the file as a PDF, but actually used the standard save command which saves in PDFClerk's own file format. With this feature he experienced a hang. He sent along a partial screenshot that showed that this is likely an obscure bug, so far unique to this particular client, in an otherwise widely used feature. In response we offered to either fix the issue at short notice, or issue a refund if we couldn't. To maximise our chances at fixing the software, we requested some information about the circumstances of the crash, and provided a step by step explanation on how to obtain it. Assembling this info and sending it to us takes just a couple of minutes. >>"When looking through the manual it is clear that this isn't a PDF editor, but some kind of a tool that writes "it's own format"." The client claimed this in his initial contact with us and we explained that PDFClerk does indeed save to PDF. (In fact, the same section in the user guide that mentions the custom file format also explains the difference between saving a PDFClerk document, and exporting to PDF, so it's hard to mis this, really.) We also told him about the various options at his disposal to save to PDF, and the differences between them, and how to access them. Having its own custom file format allows PDFClerk to offer modes of working and flexibility which would otherwise not be possible and which is generally appreciated by our users. At the same time producing PDFs from your work in PDFClerk is as easily done as saving to the custom format. Even though the customer cannot by now but be fully aware of this he insists PDFClerk is not a PDF editor. This is a clear deviation from fact. >>"Refunds from this company even when software doesn't work are a no no (probably in violation of US consumer law)." As explained above, this is not so. The customer was quickly responded to with instructions on how to save the file in the format he actually wished to save it, which would in all likelihood also immediately avoid the issue he experienced. Nonetheless, as mentioned above, we still offered the option of a refund if we couldn't provide a fix for the issue he did experience, within a couple of days. Yet the customer chose to ignore any of this; not informing us even of whether he tried our suggestions, instead sending us an antagonistic reply. Had the customer been somewhat more cooperative he would by now have had either an update that fixed the issue, or a refund, and would have spent less time at all of this than he has now, trying to _force_ the refund and speaking ill of us and our software across the internet, with claims about the software that are easily proven to be misleading. And both the avenues to a fix and to a refund are still open. >>"If you have work to do, and no desire to save files in non-pdf formats, or to troubleshoot broken software, then look elsewhere." As should be clear from the above, PDFClerk in no way forces one to save in non-PDF format. In fact, opening a PDF, making a few quick edits and exporting straight out to PDF again is an often used workflow. Neither was the customer asked to troubleshoot the software. We merely requested some information that might help _us_ to be more efficient at troubleshooting the software (what's more, for an issue that did not even affect the functionality he actually needs to achieve his stated purpose). DRDUL I bought PdfClerk Pro for only one purpose — to create and edit bookmarks. I own Acrobat Pro, and while it works fine for most tasks, it is sorely lacking when it comes to working with bookmarks. PdfClerk Pro enables me to do the following (none of which Acrobat Pro can do): • Automatically generate bookmarks from entries in a table of contents • Automatically hyperlink table of contents entries • Automatically number bookmarks • Create bookmarks with a default zoom level of "inherit zoom" Given the alternative of manually and tediously creating and editing bookmarks in Acrobat Pro, PdfClerk Pro is a bargain! DAVE BURBANK This is not going to be a comprehensive review. But I feel the need to comment on this application. I have been using PDFClerk Pro (and the non-pro version) for a couple years. It's a great way to assemble a PDF file from lots of different files. I upgraded to the pro version a while back partly to show my support for the company but also because I wanted the ability to add my own annotations (text boxes, highlights, shapes, etc) to existing PDF documents. I also looked at a product called PDF Pen, but comments about support problems scared me away. PDFClerk Pro has done everything I have asked of it. It just works! I believe I have only begun to scratch the surface of this program's potential. There are many features I haven't yet explored. For the user who wants to assemble PDF's from files of varying types and the user who wants to annotate existing PDF's this is a great program (and less expensive than the $449 Acrobat Pro!). THE BEST PART: The thing I like best about PDFClerk and PDFClerk Pro is the exceptional customer support. There are so many bad customer support experiences every day in this world. SintraWorks' António Nunes provides extraordinary support. Use the SintraWorks suport forums. You will receive a quick answer to your question. The answer will be complete, well thought out, and easy to understand. IN SUMMARY: The program is stable and works well. The support is excellent. (Version 3.2)

MARTINSTEPHENS This is an excellent application that does everything that the developer lists in his notes. But wait, there's more. This application is scriptable as well. This has allowed me to create 130 page documents with 2000 internal links by merging 4 different PDF files. Once I had the Applescript written I was creating these files in 2 minutes. To do the 2000 links manually would be impossible. The developer is very helpful and responsive. (Version 3.1.1)

MACMARIA This is a very good application. Even being a beta is very stable (I was part of the private beta 1-5) and is full of great features. In my opinion, this is a great upgrade and PDFClerk 3 makes a difference on the PDF Mac apps world: UI, PDF forms, annotations encryption and, especially, outlines. (I'm still to test the applescript capability.) For me, being able to have a "table of contents" (outline) on the sidebar of a pdf reader program, is a must for navigation, especially in medium or long documents. This feature alone allowed me to stop using Adobe's heavy weighted Acrobat. As a matter of fact, during the last week I worked in several PDFs, including some that had more than 600 pages and the behavior of PDFClerk was exemplary. I'm a very happy costumer with this application and its developer support. (Version 3.0b6)
