DESCRIPTION
Message displays messages, quotations, inspirational thoughts, vocabulary words, even foreign language phrases (accented characters are supported) on top of your screen periodically to learn as you work on your computer. Default messages are provided to learn the application; then you can prepare your own messages using categories. Messages are chosen in list or random order from checked messages in a Message Maintenance window. The Message Control Panel provides settings of display time (1 - 3 sec), period between messages (1 - 60 min), text color, etc. Settings are saved between settings. In Demo Mode, the application shuts down after ten minutes. This limitation is removed after registration.
WHAT'S NEW
Version 1.3:
  • Uses default messages in the third person. For example: "You are a caring person" vice "I am a caring person".

STEVEN GOODHEART  This is a nifty program, not only for popping up inspirational and self-motivation quotes, also but for helping to learn pieces of text or information you want to remember or memorize.

For example, I've been trying to memorize a poem, and so I entered in the verses and set up the prefs to do messages (verses) in list order. Message then pops up each verse of the poem in order, at the rate I want. I'm finally memorizing the poem.

I also like that you can save (and later, reload) any list of you create, so you can rotate lists or have an archive you can re-use later if you want.

All in all, a useful addition to my software tools at a very reasonable price that I was happy to pay.

GAZMAN  1) This would be much nicer if you could have it running just as a menubar app without a dock icon and window open all the time.

2) When changing the slider there is no live updating of the time you're selecting which makes it hard to get the timing just right.

3) Ten minutes of demo time is ridiculous.

4) It would be good if instead of just putting your text up on the screen it blacked out the rest of your screen for the specified time as well.

5) Having said all that, this app shows promise but at the moment is lacking in the implementation.

PAUL YOUNG  You can minimize the Control Window by clicking on the yellow button at the top left. Do not use the Message > Hide Message menu pick if you want messages to continue while you work on other applications.

HIGHPASS  Needs Growl support! Existing method of showing messages is pretty weak.

Needs a new icon.

HIGHPASS  Forgot to mention - also needs an option to remove dock icon/use menubar only.
