DESCRIPTION
Araxis Merge... The two and three-way visual file comparison/merging and folder synchronization application. Use it to compare, understand and combine different versions of source code, web pages and other text files, or even text copied and pasted from another application (e.g. Pages or Microsoft Word). Merge integrates with Time Machine, so you can compare older versions of files.

Merge is a compelling choice for software developers, lawyers, product release managers, web designers and other professionals who work with multiple revisions of text files, including ASCII, MBCS and Unicode files. Merge integrates with many version control (VC) and software configuration management (SCM) systems (e.g. Subversion and Perforce) that allow a third-party comparison/merging tool to be specified.

For legal professionals: instantly identify every change by copying text from different contract drafts being edited in another application (such as Microsoft Word) and pasting it directly into a file comparison window. Many more features.

This is the version of Araxis Merge for Mac OS X ‘Leopard’. A ‘Tiger’ version (Mac OS X 10.4.11 and later) is also available on the Araxis website.

REQUIREMENTS
Mac OS X 10.5.1 or later, Mac OS X 10.5.2 or later strongly recommended.

SEMIOTICMONKEY  Features wise, it beats them all. Nothing compare.

Kudos to the Devs to build a native OSX version well tought and tailored to the Mac GUI and workflow (compare it to the Win version to see how they have choosed differents paths for the Mac version to make it fit nicely to the OS).

The price is truly too high alas. A 'express' (not so stripped, tought) version in a more affordable price tag would appeals more customer and spread the brand and the use of it and challenge Filemerge users like me.

ps. And a TextMate bundle would be a nice touch.

I don't buy it cause it is, as already said, overpriced. Your opinion may differ. Try it.  (Version 2008.3487)

MARK EVERITT  This is rather expensive! I use Unison which is free and excellent for file synchronisation between two folders on a single computer (you can repeat for more than two etc.) and was designed to synchronise a local folder and a remote folder. I'm not sure how it handles merges though, as I only work on one machine at a time and then synch before switching machines.

Alternatives for merging are command line utilities such as Bazaar (bzr) for version control systems. Bazaar happens to be easy to use too if the command line doesn't scare you.
