DESCRIPTION

The BeoLingus German-English Dictionary Plugin (formerly Wörterbuch Deutsch-Englisch) extends Apple's Dictionary application (Dictionary.app) with a German-English dictionary.

  • The search works in both directions, you can search for German or English terms.
  • This is a offline dictionary, so you don't need an internet connection.

The dictionary content is based on the online dictionary www.beolingus.de by TU Chemnitz.

WHAT'S NEW
Version 08.05.15:
  • Updated the dictionary content to the OpenThesaurus database from 2008-05-07.
  • The footer can now be hidden.
  • The download is now an internet-enabled disk image instead of a zip archive.
Version 08.04.09
  • Added an update notification to the entries and the Front/Back Matter (configurable).
Version 08.03.24:
  • Added a linked copyright footer to every entry.
  • Added see-also-links to the entries.
  • Enhanced search results by using a morphology file to let you also find word forms like plural.
  • Improved formattings.
  • The search term will be shown in the dictionary window
  • No hidden character is used to move direct matches to the top of the list. Now less relevant entries are sorted at the end of the list by using an arrow
  • Now under GPL v3.
Version 08.03.14:
  • Similar search results are shown combined again. Eg. 'Wörterbuch' shows three matching results instead of one.
Version 08.03.13:
  • The search results show now direct matches at the top of the results. Eg. 'physicist' won't match 'atomic physicist' as the first result.
  • Version numbering now follows Apple's guidelines
  • Renamed the Dictionary plugin
  • Hopefully fixed the install problems
REQUIREMENTS

SJK  Archive appears to be damaged. Archive Utility extracts a .cpgz file. bunzip2 extracts a .dmg with a "trailing garbage after EOF ignored" warning; opening it won't find a filesystem.

SJK  That worked -- thanks. I'd only tried removing the .cpgz extension after Archive Utility had extracted that file.

TEKL  I hope the MacUpdate Admin will add

AddType application/x-apple-diskimage .dmg

to the server configuration or their referer script, as this will fix the problem.

BOOGAALOO MAN  Just what I've been looking for for a while! Now when I read German news articles, I can right click on the word and the english equivalent is immediate. Also works great with e-Books and term papers.

simply perfect!

FROSTY  Thank you so much for doing this. This is super helpful to have. One comment though... don't wear yourself out making daily builds! If its weekly, twice a month or monthly... that's ok. My interest in this project is that it is sustainable for you, and that you don't burn out.

Thanks again for your efforts. They are MUCH appreciated.

GLOBETROTTERDK  Apple should have a localized dictionary for each language the OS supports. When you think about it, Apple's "strategy" (if they have one) is quite weird with regards to dictionary and spell checking support in the OS.

DRAELREN  "Fills a page with code instead of downloading normally"

Safari is not completely without bugs... This can happen at any site that offers downloads in a format that causes this. how about you look for solutions first before come always crying to the developer?

as the page fills with code, copy&paste the url above into your download window of Safari.
