RAMINF I have gone through four different FTP clients (not counting the ones built into DreamWeaver and Espresso). But for copying files quickly to my server, I always go back to using ExpanDrive. Having the server be an extension of the filesystem makes it so you don't have to think about all the extra steps needed to move files back and forth. Being able to directly edit my server config files in TextEdit or add a line to a remote CSS file using CSSEdit is beyond awesome. Haven't had any problems across any of the different hosting sites I use. Heartily recommended. (Version 2.0.1)

FITZAGE Fantastic. Absolutely fantastic. Having the ability to access my servers directly from the Finder has saved me a lot of time. I combined this with Changes.app (for synching changed files) and TextMate and kicked Coda and Espresso to the curb. The only problems I've had so far with version 2 were the fault of the server not properly supporting the FTP spec for a client of mine who uses shitty web hosting. (Version 2.0.1)

BANCHALI I've used ExpanDrive since it came out, and it's the most useful paid utility I have. I manage files on several different computers and some supercomputers, and being able to mount everything as a drive is incredibly useful. I keep my iTunes library outside my laptop, but I can easily mount it with ExpanDrive and play my music anywhere with just a decent connection, which is wicked cool. MacFusion is okay, but as I use this on a laptop and move between networks a few times a day, MacFusion did not gracefully handle loss of connections while ExpanDrive has no problem. Over MacFusion, ExpanDrive also has a super slick interface and very nice AppleScript support which I use for making simple one line location commands for mounting a set of drives at a time. If you frequently work with remote files, I have seen nothing better - it even has better reliability and behavior (if not throughput) of NFS on local connections. A mac without Quicksilver, TextMate, and ExpanDrive is not really a mac, as far as I'm concerned. (Version 2.0.1)

MZCH I have been using ExpanDrive since 1.3.4. I have some FTP accounts and amazon S3 account. In every account ExpanDrive absolutely works without any troubles. I am also a PathFinder user and I can access remote volumes mounted by ExpanDrive as well as internal volumes with PathFinder. Of course, It's not say that I have never had a bit trouble, but the trouble caused by a certain third party device driver and ExpanDrive had nothing to do with it. I'm sure ExpanDrive is worth the price or more. (Version 2.0.1)

DONPERREAULT I have been using ExpanDrive mostly to access a remote server and absolutely love it. With the new version 2 you now have access to Amazon S3 accounts. I now use it to access my S3 account and absolutely love the convenience. I rarely have to open an FTP application anymore. Once you log into a remote server via ExpanDrive you have full access to that server just as it where an external HD attatched to your computer. You can just drag & drop files from the Finder to the server sitting on your desktop and in Finder window sidebar. Also, all the servers you are connected to show up in the standard Mac Open/Save dialog windows from within any application. ExpanDrive 2 is a great application that just got a whole lot better. I love it! (Version 2.0.1)

FRODO_LIFE does not seem to work, especially with PathFinder. Installed software and created FTP log in but when I double click on it the drive is not mounted in finder however it's mounted in PathFinder but PF comes up with error message There is no application available to open the document "directory" so unfortunately pretty useless pity as I like the idea (Version 2.0.1)

ROY VAN DER WONING I found this utility useful enough to purchase a license through MacZot, but less than 6 months later, the developer launches a new release and sets the grace period such that droves of new customers that were reeled in through MacZot are not eligible for a free upgrade and now have to plunk down the same 20 bucks they paid for the original license. Not quite as sneaky as the YazSoft debacle, but it does bear a canning resemblance. As icing on the cake, the blog article announcing the new release has been closed for comments after the developer was called on these business tactics and questioned on whether or not the new features warrant a major upgrade to begin with. Apparently, the developer does not appreciate the expression of legitimate customer concerns on their website. (Version 2.0)

SIMON17 I acquired it through MacZOT as well, the $20 upgrade fee is not targeted at MacZOT buyers, it applies to everyone who purchased it more that sixty days ago. Buying it new is $40. Not sure if the upgrade is worth it to me personally but I have no complaints with the developers' ethics. (Version 2.0)

TOMECK I am in the same boat too and I agree with Roy that the grace period is quite short. I don't complain about upgrade fees because I am willing to pay for major upgrades. However, it is annoying that they are haven't offered a (smaller) upgrade with actually working FTP/FTPS - this has never worked for me properly and they haven't fixed the problem after my report. What I mean is FTP/FTPS was already implemented and it can't be that I have to pay for "many enhancements to FTP/FTPS" and that it "is no longer in beta" now. (Version 2.0)

SIMON17 Those are good points and I don't dispute any of that, I just don't feel that it's sneaky, nor is it true that they targeted MacZOT customers, who even if they upgraded ($20 +$20) would still come out ahead of other customers who bought at the same time ($40 + $20). It works fine for me—with SFTP—as is. (Version 2.0)

ROY VAN DER WONING For the record, I never said or suggested that the developer "targeted" MacZot customers. People who buy licenses through MacZot (and hence, not directly from the developer) likely feel that the reduced price is more realistic for what is being offered than the regular list price. Hence, the statement that they come out ahead doesn't hold water IMO, because many MacZot customers would likely not have purchased a license to begin with, if it hadn't been for that reduced price. I for one find $40 too steep for what's essentially a one-trick pony (albeit a very nifty and useful one). Add this to the fact that a (questionably) major release is launched 6 months after the MacZot campaign (similar tactics have been heavily frowned upon in the past, and for good reasons), that the developer (by their own admission) did not finalize their FTP/SFTP implementation in the previous release and that they closed their blog article for comments after having their decision questioned (other articles still accept user feedback) and this thing just leaves a bad taste in my mouth. And I'll let those be my final 2 pesos on the matter. (Version 2.0)

I understand where you're coming from. I don't think the business tactics, if that's what you must call them, are questionable. This upgrade was a huge undertaking - it was a full rewrite of all core features plus a new filesystem, a new GUI - will also include many other new features and filesystems throughout the 2.x line. We don't have the luxury of giving it away. We work extremely hard to provide a good product and great support. If you don't think an upgrade is justified, then you don't have to. Perhaps wait a couple months for more features. We're not turning off support for our 1.x line - it was just time to rev our core and keep going. Also, FWIW, we'll be releasing an update to the 1.x line this week that incorporates all the updates to the FTP/FTPS layer. (Version 2.0)

DONPERREAULT I have been using Expandrive for almost a year and rely on it daily. I log into my ftp accounts without having to open a specific application like, Transmit, Flow or Forklift. ExpanDrive 2.0 brings with it Amazon S3 support, thrilling. ExpanDrive is so simple to use. Each account appears to be just another hard drive on your desktop, you drag & drop files just like you do when moving files via the finder. I uploaded a 3MB file in less than 30 seconds with my 30 Mbps Comcast connection. I did notice that with the larger files ExpanDrive hogs all the power from the cpu and you can't work with the Finder until the upload/download is complete. So, unfortunately with large files over 100MB I recommend using Transmit or another FTP application. (Version 2.0)
