DESCRIPTION
AirPort Flow is a small utility to monitor the transfer rates on an AirPort Extreme.

The rates are polled from the AirPort Extreme by SNMP. The top graph shows the incoming TCP traffic to the router and the lower one shows the outgoing TCP traffic from the router on a given interface.

In the preferences one can set the IP Address of the router, an IF (interface) index value (2 is specific for the AirPort Extreme) and a so-called community password (public is default).

[No SNMP response] is given when no response is received from the router. The router should have SNMP enabled. The IF index is added to monitor other interfaces on the router, 2 is the wireless part and 6 the WLAN port.

WHAT'S NEW
Version 1.5: Relaxed an Apple specific SNMP request making AirPort Flow work with non-Apple routers.
REQUIREMENTS
Mac OS X 10.5 (might work on 10.4 too), AirPort Extreme with 'Allow SNMP' enabled, under 'Advanced' in AirPort Utility.

ROGER KATZ  This program seemed to work nicely after I enabled SNMP for my MacBook Pro with MacOS 10.5.2, BUT doing so messed up the ability of my new Airport Extreme to use the printer connected to it. I was able to successfully get the printer to work after turning off the SNMP.

DANA SUTTON  This is no doubt a fine and useful tool for the great majority who use AirPort Extreme (and also Time Capsule?) as a wireless router. Those no doubt few of us who use it exclusively as an ethernet routerneed not bother downloading it.

DANA SUTTON  Since AirPort Express contains an ethernet switch and multiple ports, it is possible to use it as a router for a hard-wired ethernet LAN (and this is one option supported by AirPort Utility) Since the MacUpdate page says AirPort Flow "monitors traffic flow," somebody might do as I did and assume this could be used to measure traffic (and speed?) of ethernet traffic handled by APE. But it doesn't,if you try it only reports "No SNMP response," and shows no data, so I guess it only monitors traffic flow handled by APE when used as a wireless device. Or am I missing something?

STORMCHILD  I understood the original comment; it was just worded badly. If you must insert "no doubt" into every sentence, put commas around it. ;)
