DESCRIPTION
DrawIt Lite is an easy-to-use, free and powerful image editing and drawing application designed for the Mac. DrawIt Lite has a few limitations compared to its bigger brother but has the same powerful vector tools, standard shapes, bitmap editing, non-destructive filters and Layer Blending.

Out of the box, DrawIt includes a large number of ready-to-use and easily customizable special shapes; circles, stars, rounded rectangles and polygons, as well as support for an unlimited number of nested groups, masks and custom overlays.

WHAT'S NEW
Version 3.7.2:
  • It's now again possible to doubleclick a point in a Vector tool to add curves
  • Fixes a serious bug in the Slice Tool
  • Fixes a bug where dragging layers from the document to the layers list would result in weird behaviour
  • Added ‘Group’ to the contextual menu
  • Other minor bug fixes
  • DrawIt now properly supports (one-pixel) lines
REQUIREMENTS
Mac OS X 10.5 or later.

PAT320  If you are on Tiger, don't update to 1.1!

1.0.1 only can run on tiger.

PETER DA SILVA  Where do you get 1.0.1? Their site says "Drawit Lite is not available for Tiger and never will be".

MUSUBANA  Anyone thinking this is a vector drawing application like DrawBerry or Inkscape should be warned: It isn’t.

It is a bitmap drawing app, which nonetheless has the option to use a vector line as an on-screen delimiter of an actual pixel figure. (It is like creating a [physical world] tile mosaic within the wavy bonds of an encircling rope.)

Nonetheless, the lite version is a decent (bitmap) drawing application. It relies heavily on an insert menu, from which different shapes can be selected – a kind of ”collage wizard”. This makes it easy to use for the newcomer, but more ”bossy” and less flexible to those accustomed to SeaShore, PhotoShop, etc. That being said, DrawIt Lite has some strength in creating custom bitmap shapes. I think I’ll keep it, and use it to create stars and the like, which can then be easily copy-pasted into SeaShore or a text document.

MICHAEL KWASNICKI  The ease of use and the capabilities are amazing but one little thing is missing :

As this is a vector graphics program it would be great to be able to import from or export to SVG. Leopard already knows how to dispay them in QuickLook thanks to the implementation in Safari.

MUSUBANA  This isn’t a vector app in the proper sense. Therefore, it cannot possibly export as .svg.

When you choose ”insert vector”, it just uses a vector line to delimit a bitmap figure. Try increasing the zoom level, and you’ll see all the clumsy pixels…

MACMARIA  Great idea to make a free version of DrawIt. I downloaded it and am amazed with the capacities and stability I found so far. In a few months if I still use it regularly I'll buy the "pro" version.

Thank you for this, Pieter.
