JETFIREDX  Thanks. I have been following it on Blender's forums and am on the second build with some fixes... still not really usable, but almost good enough to learn with. If nothing else, waiting up to 20 seconds for it to respond at times gives me time to ponder the UI and the hotkeys to try to commit things to memory.

FANTON  sorry my previous review was actually a reply to someone's post

my own review i say its a good update

before i was unable to run second life. complete system freeze. now it works fine. no issues since then.

i looked into opengl extensions and it seems they enabled about 3,4 major things. but i think the driver is still incomplete/unoptimized. so...for me that is good news..it means x3100 could be even more powerful.

FANTON  try 2.45rc1. it's a beta but works fine. the interface is very slow but rest is okay. no glitches. actually switching to a plain simple theme makes it a bit faster? at least i think the gradients on buttons make the interface slow.

JETFIREDX  Blender 2.45 on MacBook still suffers from terrible performance with this update. Unusable menus and responses from the UI.

OpenGL extension viewer benchmark tests gave the same performance results as before.

JETFIREDX  Looking through the system I can only find a few files in System/Library/Extensions that were updated today with this update. My GMA950 related kexts are all still from Oct 2007, so I guess that means those of use using this poor chip didn't really get to see any (or many) fixes? That would explain why Blender is still useless.

MUDFLAPPER  I believe some time ago Apple announced they would now release printer driver and graphics driver updates separately from OS updates.

    Not sure why.

VOLT KNUCKLE  In theory, this would open the path to more frequent updates that are independent of OS updates. Before, you'd have to wait for a system-wide update before the drivers would get rolled out.

We might also see the manufacturers taking a more hands-on approach to the drivers being released for their products, rather than letting Apple do it.

MYSTICALOS  I agree. I also think that since drivers depend a lot on 3rd party improvemens first, IE, nvidia has to update their base drivers (which apple modifies for OS X) to fix certain problems. Sometimes one fix breaks another thing too. In a trouble shooting perspective drivers which apple isn't 100% in control of seperate is more logical anyway. That way if a problem starts after installing drivers apple can diagnose it better..ANd the end user can have less of a hard time rolling the update back too..since it was independant...instead of trying to roll back to 10.5.1 simply because of bad drivers, they can roll back to 10.5.2 still minus the drivers. :)
