DESCRIPTION
LCD Scrub... Liquid crystal displays are susceptible to image persistence (what we used to call “burn-in” on old CRT monitors). Unlike CRTs, however, LCDs with image persistence can often be repaired with special video patterns, saving the cost of a repair or new display. LCD Scrub uses recommended techniques from Apple, NEC, and other manufacturers (plus some of our own tricks) to gradually “scrub” away residual images from liquid crystal displays.
WHAT'S NEW
Version 1.1:
  • Four new scrubbing sequences using bolder patterns, which may help with some displays and persistent images.
  • Bug fix: The configuration sheet failed to show up in certain situations (now fixed).
REQUIREMENTS
Mac OS X 10.4 or later.

SHOTGUNWEDDINGS  Works exactly as it should.

Got rid of my Safari menu/tab borders lines finally, no more semi-transparent lines.

    Great job!

    Thanks

    ****.

KEN BURNS EFFECT  This Screensaver app is really great!

Works just as advertised. I have a Cinema Display 20 with severe ghost images, two "clouds" and in the menu bar. After running LCD Scrub for many days, shorter or sometimes longer periods each day the ghosting has gotten better, sometimes it is almost gone.

While ghosting comes back so does the scrubbing:-) I let it run as often as there is a work pause, always during daily (nightly) backups and often an hour after backup completed.

I will now install the 1.1 version and see if the new patterns are even more effective for my screen.

The only culprit in this drama is Apple and their occasional lack of quality.

When I get a new (non-Apple) screen I'll probably continue to run LCD Scrub to spare the pixels.

GMAX  Who, in their right mind, would pay $18 for this when there are several free alternatives?

DSANDLER  The free alternatives have a number of limitations. Standalone apps must be started manually; they don't work unless you remember to use them. Java applets can't draw over the entire screen, and a great deal of image persistence on Macs occurs in areas a web-based tool can't touch (e.g. the menu bar and Dock). Finally, I'm not aware of any other software that uses high-contrast moving patterns like the ones pioneered by LCD Scrub, which, in my own personal experience, have worked where other techniques and tools did not.

HAGI  To avoid image persistence and improve the lifetime of your LCD the main color of the displayed image should be

    WHITE

Unfortunately most screensavers (including Apple-Screensavers) use

    BLACK

as main-color. This is good for CRT-Monitors (but who has still CRT ???).
