THEGREATMACSTER  Hello Diego,

I have discovered that there are two versions of MediaInfo. One is located on your website, and another one is found on the Sourceforge website. The version on Sourceforge has a newer version number. Should I use the Sourceforge version, or your version? What is the difference?

As other users here have noted, on your website it says that MediaInfo is supposed to have an option under "Services", as well as a contextual menu item. These two options are not found on your version, or on version 0.7.27 or 0.7.28 that I downloaded from Sourceforge. Are these options no longer available in the program? I am running Snow Leopard on a 27" iMac.

I also discovered another program called VideoSpec 0.8.2 on the website of Laurent Ettouati, who is developing the Sourceforge version of MediaInfo. There is a forum post on his website -- dated September 20, 2009 -- which says that MediaInfo has been discontinued. It says:

"Note that MediaInfo Mac is now discontinued by its author and should be replaced by a new app (two versions: a free one and a commercial one)."

I am assuming that Laurent is referring to VideoSpec.

So, I am confused.

Out of these three apps -- Sourceforge MediaInfo, your version of MediaInfo, and Laurent's VideoSpec -- which is the newest app, and which one should I be using?

Thank you!

HOUDINI  Jérôme Martinez IS developing the Sourceforge version of MediaInfo which is chronologically the first version of MediaInfo. He provides a library, a Command Line Interface (CLI) and a Graphical User Interface (GUI) of MediaInfo. You will see here that there are releases for numerous OS: http://mediainfo.sourceforge.net/fr/Download. Laurent Ettouati is ONLY maintaining the Mac OS X versions of MediaInfo (official releases). MediaInfo Mac by Diego, uses Jérôme MediaInfo library in a fast and well designed GUI. Finally, VideoSpec developed by Laurent Ettouati is another GUI using MediaInfo CLI and others tools. So, thanks to Jérôme for providing us his amazing tool!

PIPKATO  Just to report that I have Snow Leopard installed but don't get the Services option for MediaInfo or the Contextual Menu on movie files. I did try rebooting my Mac but it didn't help.

MARCP  Thanks for this app, it is very useful AND fast.

Questions :

1- you say that 0.7.17.5 adds contextual menu and system wide service but I can't see them (yes I've restarted)

2- with a ProRes file, the codec's name given by mediainfo is apcs. Do you know why?

sorry to ask fo support here, but there is no way to do it otherwise...

MDEWAKANTON  No luck on Tiger 10.4.11 PPC: "you can't use this app with this system's version" or something similar in my language. Trashed .plist but to no avail. Anyone else?

TREADMAN  If you are having trouble with it in OS X 10.4.11, try trashing the preferences. Worked for me.

MDEWAKANTON  Thanks again. Works fine on Tiger 10.4.11 PPC, even though the issue I reported below (the Container, Video and Audio stream tabs' black background in Preferences window) isn't fixed.
