COWICIDE Hmmm... just a package installer thrown into a dmg without any accompanying read me file about what gets installed and how to uninstall or release notes. There are alternatives to Netflix. Screw this. This disease will not infest my Mac. (Version 3.0.40624)

DALISLLAMA I will prefice this review by saying that I have been working with Flash since it was called FutureSplash and had not yet been purchased by Macromedia. I have used Silverlight on several Mac/Intel systems and have found it to be great. As a developer of Flash and Java applications I have to say that I have noticed that Silverlight provides much better video streaming as well as including features such as Deep Zoom (check out the Hard Rock Memorbilia web page to see that in action). Furthermore, Silverlight seems to have been designed from the ground up to be a much more secure plug-in. Flash has and continues to be riddled with security issues and updates. To the users who are concerned about people using VB or C# to express their applications you must understand that these are simply languages. What matters is how the application is implemented using the language. (Version 3.0.40624)

LEOOFBORG Agreed. I do not want ANYTHING running VB on my Mac. Why bring Windows problems over to the Mac? (Version 3.0.40624)

SPLIG I agree with most of the comments: a: We do not need yet another protocol the installer does warn that it will update automatically, but there is no choice given. I installed this solely to watch Netflix streams. A previous version did not work, but this one does the job and has not crashed for me. I wish Netflix had chosen another protocol, BUT the software does appear to work as advertised, so I can't give it as low a score as others have done. I may need to adjust my stability score after further use. (Version 2.0.40115)

SURFSPIRIT One more "protocol", as if aren't already enough of them, anyway, it crashes safari a few seconds after using it in a web page. I just can't understand how Microsoft is such a big company with so bad software! (Version 2.0.40115)

Is this you or Microsoft? It shows that VERSION 2+ will run on PPC/Intel but there is no way the installer will run on a PPC. Please change your system requirements... and yes I do know that version 1 will run on a PPC but the download is for version 2+. (Version 2.0.40115)

I(POWER)MAC In the "System requirements" page of Silverlight (see here: http://www.microsoft.com/silverlight/resources/install.aspx?v=1.0#sysreq) is clearly specified that Silverlight 2.0 is only for MacIntels. I don't know who has posted this release of Silverlight, but he/she has posted wrong infos about it. (Version 2.0.40115)

The Microsoft site says very specifically that 2 is for Intel and only 1 is for PPC. I wish MacUpdate would fix this because I keep thinking that the latest version has overcome this when I see that it states here (and for the last many updates) that version 2+ is for PPC also. MacUpdate... are you reading this? (Version 2.0.40115)

MISHA We fixed this, sorry about that. Admittedly we do not always verify that previous system requirements have not changed between releases (because 99% of the time they do not). Thanks for bringing this to our attention. (Version 2.0.40115)

JAMUS I would love to see the market test data that promoted Microsoft to plaster their Silverlight download page with: "Dont Worry! We wont install a bunch of additional stuff on your computer or try to sign you up for unwanted email." So far, I have found it to be glorified junk that Flash could have handled instead (based on sites I have seen so far). If not for Netflix streams I would never have it touch my computer. You think Flash ads have been bad in the past few years? Just wait till this beastly lump of code hits high enough saturation and M$ touts download numbers that gets advertiser's attention... JUSTINCASE I agree with JAMUS.... If not for NETFLIX I won't load this junk on my MAC (or PC). (Version 2.0.40115)

AESCHYLUS Does Microsoft purposely try to make their software infuriatingly complicated to use on a Mac, or is this just the best they can do? Even though this is supposed to be seamless, when you finally discover something that needs Silverlight, it doesn't seem as easy or smooth as Flash. It crashes my Intel Mac too. ZANGIEF I'm not so sure that a logo on a background, however beautiful and reminiscent of flame fractals, qualifies as being a screenshot, but the product itself is fine. (Version 2.0.31005.0)

THREEDEE912 The NBC Olympics thing was horrible. NBC put a ton of DRM and region-locking and service provider checks in place, which really made everything, well, suck. However, that was NBC's fault, not really Microsoft's. I'm gonna try an post an honest review. Silverlight installed without any problem. It's function is similar to flash, displaying interactive content online. I'd say its about the same speed as Flash too, maybe only slightly faster at certain things. However, not many sites use Silverlight so it's hard to tell. (Version 2.0)
