MACINTOSH SAUCE  A couple weeks ago I purchased CoverStream and found a few problems. Yesterday, I decided to e-mail Fabian (the developer) about them and he releases a bug update today. I am very impressed! :)

CoverStream is nice in the way that it uses Apple's Cover Flow to access your music, without having to go directly through iTunes. I love it!

This is a wonderful app that I now use every day since I discovered it here on MacUpdate.

DANNY_2  I like this app a lot, as an iTunes controller i prefer it it over CoverSutra. The Cover Flow is great, the art on the desktop is great, the controls in the menubar are great, like I said: I like it a lot. There's just one thing I don't like about it: after a few hours of playing music Cover Stream turns out to be an immense memory hog: it consumes 1.5 GB of memory! I have to quit the app to reclaim my memory. Anyone seeing this problem? I'll write the developer about it, otherwise it's back to CoverSutra for me. 3 stars for now.

DJEFIS  Beautiful software, continually improves.

Thanks to the attention of the Developer!

It is my opinion that it represents the good partner for iTunes.

DOUG S.  _Pros:_

Cover Stream has a very nice UI. Out of all the iTunes mini-players it's gotta be my favourite, and not just because it has cover-flow built-in.

The UI seems pretty clean and intuitive which is always a bonus for any app, though oddly not something you can rate it for. If I could, this app would get a 5 for it's UI.

I've also noticed it to be very stable for my purposes. I have a very large library, with almost all of it having album art. Cover Stream loads it pretty quickly.

_Cons:_

For all the niceness of it's UI, it has a mode where there is no album artwork and a mode where there is cover-flow. I would like to see a middle-mode that just shows the album artwork.

Likewise, my biggest gripe about this app (and it's competition, CoverSutra) is that it auto-hides itself when not the active app. Key-commands bring it back but I enjoy having it there where I can look at it. It's a nice replacement to Apple's iTunes mini-player.

In the end, this last thing is the missing feature that made me look elsewhere. I do wonder how hard it would be to make the auto-hide part of this app something you could turn on and off...

SNARB  Thank you for the kind words. Glad you like the UI. You can already set the window to float on top from the menu bar. But perhaps your point was you want it to behave like a "normal" window? Unfortunately this is not possible: a HUD must either hide or float on top. About "the middle mode" you requested: care to elaborate on that? Not quite sure what you mean. Thanks.

DOUG S.  That's too bad about no window-behaviours.

What I meant by "middle-mode" would be for it to display the album artwork but not in cover-flow mode, just the album artwork of the current album.

I didn't notice that in the current version, but I might have missed it.

IKARI  I like this app, but why are all the controls taken away when you're in full screen view? like the search function and the play scroller? and yeah, being able to play a song??

This seems really odd to me and rather limiting. I'm trying to set up my mac mini as a media hub with a touch screen display so having the option to have all the controls in full screen view would be great. Would that be possible in an upcoming update?

Also, it would look better if the albums spun around like they do on the ipod touch with tracks on the back of the album art.

REPOSED  Snow Leopard broke support for displaying artwork on the desktop. It displays it, you just can't move it to another location any more.

ROB.H  Great little app and one I would buy if it wasn't for the fact that it crashes all the time.
