WIZZARD1  I have been using this product since beta and it has always performed well; no slowdowns. All my testing has been on full loaded (memory wise and disk wise) mac laptops and desktops. Checkup works perfectly fine and has no performance issues. All test machines have 2 gig of memory or less - granted they are all intel if that makes a different to the general audience here.

APP4MAC is slowly building in features. As much as some of the reviews say all can come from other free apps that is not always true as most app may have an extra fee for the add on or you may have to use multiple or you may have to use a generic drivers.

I agree iStat may be an exception in some way but the menuing system when you turn on everything uses up much real estate in your bar.

Both are great tools. Both package it nicely.

I am not doubting that some of you may be having performance issues but these may not necessarily be related to CheckUP even if you remove it and all seems fine - you might still have a conflict from some other app. APP4Mac support has been great so if you have problems report any conflicts to them so they can adjust and fix if necessary. They are very helpful.

And for you folks complaining at the price, you should have bought it during the beta phase and just shortly after when the price was much, much lower. I agree that currrent pricing may not be reflective of the apps features but the euro ain't cheap in comparison to other currencies. The developer believe that they should be charging that price - if you don't agree don't buy it; if the world feels the same then they will not make sales and the price might drop - this is the same with any product. Wonder if you same folks complain about the price of a windows os, upgrade, etc but you would still buy it or steal the code and use it for free. Whiners.

If you try the product, don't like it and don't like the price, then delete it; no one wishes to hear you complain like someone is going to do something about it. Folks want to hear issues about real problems and not subjective views. Please keep them to yourself.

TEXASSTARGAZER  I would like to update my previous review. After using Checkup for a few days I have come to the conclusion that it's too limited to be of any use. It checks sensors every second with no way to change this. It also only check a few sensors, predefined by the developer, and un-selectable by the user. I now agree with other reviewers that this app is just a pretty face and not functionally useful. A waste of $42. Hopefully the developer will give their customers some flexibility and more options in future releases.

TEXASSTARGAZER  Very nice app, ignore the negative reviews, try it for yourself. Whatever these negative reviewers do for a living, I'm sure they get paid well for doing it. I don't understand why they expect other people to put in long hours and hard work developing a very nice app and not receive any compensation for it.

HYPERB  Waste of money.

A few (very few actually...) nice features, but the daemon slows down my computer A LOT, especially when leaving the sleep mode.

Nice eyecandy app, but definitely better in my trash can.

DANA SUTTON  The author of the original review is factually accurate: most if not all of the information CheckUp gives you about your comoputer is available from free applications such as iStat Menus and Apple's own Activity Monitor. And I don't see any evidence in his review that he wrote it after only using CheckUp for only two minutes, that's a grossly unfair accusation by the developer. As with anything else in life, it is up to the developer to name his price, and up to individual purchaser to decide whether the product is worth it. If the developer gets it right, he is a success, if doesn't, then he goes to bed hungry. Personally, I agree with the reviewer that CheckUp is much too expensive, but many people will probably disagree. I'd only make two comments to the developer. First, the advertised price is stated to be $40 USD, so I don't quite understand how the way the dollar is currently pegged against the Euro is a relevant thing to mention. If the value of the Euro suddenly plunged, I very much doubt you'd lower your US price to reflect that. Second, you ought at least to consider whether, if you asked less for each copy, you might sell enough extra copies that you'd actually make MORE money than you may be now. So it's at least possible that offering your product at a much more reasonable price would be in your best economic interest.

FORMICA  $40? For what? The major functions of this app are available FOR FREE in the iStat Pro Widget or iStat Menus, and in those cases the only value added is all the eye candy, so it's pretty, but it wastes a ton of screen space for essentially no useful purpose. This app does provide some functionality that the two iStat apps do not, such as: 1) Rules triggered "when certain conditions are met for a specified resource..."; 2) logging; and 3) system monitoring over a network. Those 3 major functions offered my CheckUp bur not by the iStat apps could be useful to network administrators, but not to average users.

And ChecUp offers a few other functions that are available FOR FREE by several other apps. So the bottom line is this: Is it absolutely necessary for you to have WITHIN ONE APPLICATION all of the otherwise FREE capabilities offered by a few individual apps? If yes, then is it still necessary at the cost of $40?

Even I would like to have all these functions provided by just one app. However, even if I were a network administrator, paying $40 for that convenience would be simply extravagant, considering that they're available for free in two or even three apps. At a price of say $5, I might consider buying Checkup. I suspect that most Mac owners feel just as I do -- judging the customer reviews on both CheckUp 2.5b2 MacUpdate and VersionTracker.

LACWBO  The new version seems to perform as advertised except that it still refuses to detect my WiFi networks. This problem was first noted when versions 2.0b1 and 2.0b2 were introduced. The old version 1 detected the networks. Can't understand why version 2 can't.

LACWBO  The latest version 2.0b3 no longer crashes on my system. The only problem I have with the latest version is that I cannot detect the Wi Fi networks of which one is mine. I have informed the developer of the problem. I can detect the networks using a previous version 1.xxxx

LACWBO  This is a correction to my previous post re: crash at startup.

I installed version 2.0b2. The previous version 1.2.1 all worked fine. The latest version crashes at the opening screen. After removing all the CheckUp files and reinstalling, it works for a few times then crashes upon startup of CheckUp. App4mac has been informed of the problem.

Still no reply from app4mac.

I would reinstall version 1.2.1 again, it worked but I can't find it anywhere.
