BPIZZO  Heres the blue screen fix for 10.5 users.

sudo defaults write /Library/Preferences/com.apple.loginwindow DesktopPicture /System/Library/CoreServices/DefaultDesktop_org.jpg

If you want to change the background image simply COPY THE IMAGE you want to use TO THE PATH

/System/Library/CoreServices/

Then enter terminal again and put the sudo again with the new image path

sudo defaults write /Library/Preferences/com.apple.loginwindow DesktopPicture /System/Library/CoreServices/NEWIMAGENAME.JPG

IT WORKS FOR ME

FAHAD JAVED  It makes your computer incredibly slow and it takes ages to load up the login screen. Also does anyone know how to undo this slowness? and uninstall this application?

MR. GECKO  This dose not install any thing. it only sets a preference in /Library/Preferences/com.apple.loginwindow called DesktopPicture. You can simply undo it by running

sudo defaults delete /Library/Preferences/com.apple.loginwindow DesktopPicture

in terminal

MAKAI  Can't locate DefaultDesktop.jpg in Tiger, so I figure the above relates to Leopard only?

MAKAI  Duuh.. that was supposed a reply to a thread lower down, yet ended up here and I can't even seem to correct that -- oh well, I give up on this... anyways, the whole thing doesn't work under Tiger, it seems to sort of dislike the string set in loginwindow plist, and I also do not see which default desktop picture to change directly to get the desired effect --- nice idea though...

STOSH1985  If you want to fix your login screen after this application screws it up, run this at your terminal:

sudo defaults write /Library/Preferences/com.apple.loginwindow DesktopPicture /System/Library/CoreServices/DefaultDesktop.jpg

To change the background of the login screen, you can either alter the path above, or change the DefaultDesktop.jpg file.

STOSH1985  Not really a script, just a terminal command. But, yes, it should correct the changes that script made. It did for me.

JOEL MUELLER  Didn't work for me in Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard. Logging out left a blue screen that hung for a while and then it finally gave up and showed the normal login background of blue.

E_COMMERCE  10.4 "or later", eh? I hope the author has accounted for the fact that 10.5 uses a completely different picture location (/System/Library/CoreServices/).
